The House on Cold Hill by Peter James.

@Natalie who’s the author?
Yes, so many books called Following.
Oh, Okay!!!!
I don’t like horror but Dark Matter by Michelle Paver kept my flatmate up all night.
@Charlotte I loved this.
The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
This is my recommendation as well!
I’m hard to freak out but I had to take a break from listening to that one for a couple days at a certain point.
The Highway by CJ Box.
Amityville horror by Jay Anson… so freaking scary! And supposedly a true story
Most of Blake Crouch’s books will keep you up at night
Except dark matter, good book but a lot of scientific words used lol
@Martina oh I liked that too
Anything by Stephen King especially Pet Cemetery
The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule was nightmarish. It’s a true crime book about Ted Bundy. Scary guy!
I love true crime, now I have to find this!
@Jennie I love Ann Rule. True crime is my favorite. I can’t imagine working with someone you find out later was such a savage person. The most twisted true crime I’ve read are about Ed Gein. Really sick stuff.
@Julie, Ann Rule is my favorite true crime writer. The Stranger Beside Me actually gave me nightmare! That dude was twisted! You have any other authors you like that writes true crime?
@Jennie I have not found another author like Ann Rule. I will look for books about a specific killer and read those. I have every book Ann Rule has written and have read them at least twice. The 3 killers I have studies are (my 1st choice) Charles Manson, Ed Gein and Wayne Gacy. I spent 13 years in WI. Some of the most evil killers grew up in or spent time inWI (Gacy, Dahmer, Capone and Gein). I blamed the cheese.
@Julie, have you read this?
@Jennie yes. I’ve read almost everything about Manson. Society needs to figure out the warning signs of deviant people or there will be more Mansons, Dahmers Bundys. I wanted to work for the BAU from jr high. We need to figure these people out.
I CANNOT stress this enough: Clive Barker.
The Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill
@Ellie I was going to say this too ?

Robert McCammon’s Mathew Corbett series. The first book is called Speaks the Nightbird. He eases the reader in…it just gets creepier and creepier as the series progresses.

@Helen do u recommend one to start with by chance?
He is a good writer. I enjoyed The Crucifix Killer.
@Laura My 1st was The Caller.It was so good i am investing in all of the others.
@Cathy thanks!
Helter Skelter!
Not sure I’ve come across any and horror is my favourite genre. But I guess the paranormal can be quite scary. But Graham Masterton can be quite creepy. Prey was good. Charnal House. The Manitou series.
My Absolute Darling-Gabriel Tallent
@Charlotte this is on my list – is it good?
Oh yes it is. However, it is important to know that it includes a father abusing his daughter before you begin as otherwise it comes as an extremely sickening surprise. Having said that, both my husband and I couldn’t put it down. Its one of those unusual thrillers that is composed by someone who can actually write.
@Charlotte thank you for the warning – I think I was aware when I put it on my list, but it’s v kind of you to warn regardless. And good to know it’s worth reading too. I’m not a big thriller reader but will move this up the list on your rec. thanks again.
Anything Stephen King. ‘Salems Lot gives me the heebie-jeebies.
Me too. Tried to read it a few times but never get very far
@Jane vampires….I do NOT like vampires!!
Me neither!
The Troop by Nick Cutter
@Jason is this a slow burn or is it fast paced?
@Laura faced paced, quick, creepy read
He has on called The Deep too, equally disturbing
@Jason thanks ?
I thought this was terrible! Just my opinion, though. Not scary!
Iain Rob Wright has pretty many good ones.
Oh wow I don’t think I would read those
I don’t read a lot of creepy books but I child theif and krampus by Brom are really good. He even draws his own graphics in the books of the characters. He is awesome.
I love Jonathan Maberry’s Pine Deep series. Start with Ghost Road Blues. I have also enjoyed Bentley Little. Stephen King is the master.
