I usually get rid of the box except I have a really pretty set of Jane Austen’s novels that I have on my dresser in the box. The plastic is off, I just keep it in the box because it’s really pretty.
in many occasions I already own the books and I buy them once again, only to put my hands on the box set! who would discard a box set like harry potter???
Depends on if there’s cool art. If not and it’s just a box to keep the books in, then nah. If there’s cool art, then definitely keep and maybe even display.
The last two box sets I bought were for books for age 10+ for my Little Free Library. I put the books out individually because I was concerned someone would take them all in one fell swoop. I’m hoping they’ll return the one they took when they come for the next one! But I’m saving the box in case I get them all back!
Believe it or not, I got my first box set for Christmas (Roald Dahl collection). I kept the box because I assumed I was supposed to but tbh I don’t care for the look of it on my shelf!
Nita Kohli, that is how I am feeling, but it takes some arranging when I have to shift my shelves. For example, three of the five will fit at the end while the other two will have to be brought down to the next shelf. So far. I have been able to work with it.
For me it entirely depends on 2 factors. 1) ease of getting books in and out of the box, some are pretty tight and difficult to manage and 2) whether or not one of my toddlers found the box and left it where the dogs could reach it ? they love cardboard

you could remove them from their box, but keep the box somewhere.
I always keep the boxes, it’s part of what you pay for and usually designed nicely.
I keep the boxes
I keep the boxes.
I always keep the boxes.
For one series (A Song of Ice and Fire) I tossed it, but kept the one that came with my Neil Gaiman + Chris Riddel colab kid books
Keep!
Thank you all for your thoughts.

I have an oversized, illustrated version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in a box set I paid $65 for…you better believe I kept the box. ?
I always always keep the boxes! ?

Keep. That’s what preserves the books, and sometimes the value.
Keep the boxes
Keep
Keep the box. The books stay cleaner.
JM May, I had not thought of that. Thank you.
I keep the box. But I use them for decoration.
JM May, I cannot find your comment anymore. What did I do?!
I keep them as they are as beautiful as the books. I don’t know but I can’t make myself throw them out ?

Erica Coomer, it can be difficult to take one book out at a time. Sometimes, it requires removing the entire box for the one novel.
Conflicted. Also, how HARD is it to get a book back into the box after taking it out! ?
Lisa Stubbs Flemming. I agree. In the classroom, I laminate them, so they are thicker and harder to put in and remove from the box.
