A Separate Peace has a familiar feel to it, I believe. It’s been a while since I’ve read it (over 20 years), but if I remember correctly, it’s two college buddies instead of brothers – and one is maimed instead of killed. Jealousy was the underlying reason for the maiming.
East of Eden by John Steinbeck has the story of Cain and Abel at the base of it.
Timshel…
I was fascinated by the various interpretations of ‘timshel’: order, promise, or choice.

Been awhile since I read Separate Peace, but not college, a boarding school.
Great :). Thanks for the refresher!
Rich Man, Poor Man
by Irwin Shaw Oldie but goodie
Ooohh I forgot about these,,
I remember watching the mini-series back in the day.
Yes I remember that too, and reading the book, my father had it. LOL Seems like yesterday
It’s been decades since I’ve read, but if you like Jeffrey Archer, there are at least two more books in the Kane and Abel series.
Read both of those
He wrote The Clifton Chronicles—a multi-novel saga following several characters. It’s similar to Kane and Abel.
An old one I remember reading and loving; Sow Not in Anger by JAck Hoffenberg

East of Eden is definitely a Cain and Abel story.
I haven’t read Gilead. It sounds interesting.
Gilead has been called the ‘perfect’ novel.
What is it about?
East of Eden
