Fantasy comes out in February: The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. Reeeeally good epic fantasy. Or Down Among the Sticks and Bones by Seannan McGuire if you want something short. The Nevernight trilogy by Jay Kristoff is also great!
I just finished reading the second book in the Dr. Greta Helsing series by Vivian Shaw, even better than the first. Greta Helsing is a doctor for supernatural beings such ad vampires. Her good friend Ruthven is gay. I wouldn’t call it queer lit, but the books are certainly inclusive, and beautifully written. Expect a bit of gore — vampires, surgery, etc.
That’s what I was going to suggest. I haven’t read it yet, but got it in Kindle version a couple of days ago for just $1.99 and I think it’s still at that price. A SciFi classic by Ursula Le Guin. “A lone human ambassador is sent to Winter, an alien world without sexual prejudice, where the inhabitants can change their gender whenever they choose.”
Jeanette Winterson as a writer. Not all her stories or characters are queer (Written on the Body may be closest) but all her stories are fantastical and take the reader on a journey. Her book Tanglewreck, for teens, deals with time travel.
Again, not fantasy/sci-fi but: oldie is Rubyfruit Jungle. Stone Butch Blues Tom Spanbauer novels. James Kirkwood novels. Stephen Fry’s The Liar. Jeffrey Eugenides Middlesex.
Gooseberry Bluff Community College of Magic by David J. Schwartz
The Drowning Girl by Caitlín R. Kiernan
Holding Still for As Long As Possible by Zoe Whittall
Beyond Binary: Genderqueer and Sexually Fluid Speculative Fiction, Brit Mandelo
Nevada by Imogen Binnie
Dust Devil on a Quiet Street, Richard Bowes
God in Pink, Hasan Namir
The Ultra Fabulous Glitter Squadron Saves The World Again by A.C. Wise
Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin broke my heart. I also love Fun Home by Alison Bechdel.
Giovanni’s Room is so sad!
Less by S.A. Greer

I’ve been considering diving into some LeGuin but I’m so unsure where to start! Isn’t this one technically book 2 in a series?
@Missy, as I mentioned, I haven’t read it yet, but I found this discussion on Goodreads that seems to agree that while it’s part of a book cycle, it also stands alone.
