Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not that good. Something can be a masterpiece but not something I enjoy. Tolkien’s writing style doesn’t appeal to everyone but neither does gold (I like silver better but that doesn’t make gold less valuable.)
Good is a relative term. I was introduced to that story as a child in cartoon format so for me, trying to get through that book years later was tedious. I still love the story, but I can understand why someone wouldn’t.
Lord of the Rings is a fantastic classic. But you have to be into fantasy type books to like it. It is also based on a lot of ancient mythology. If you know ancient mythology you would know that. I enjoy the whole series because of the other aspects of the trilogy. Not just the fantasy. It is almost like a mystery series though, wondering, where did Tokien get this or that idea from ?
It is fiction book of imagination every one has choice of imagining so every one will not like same thing read what you like not what others like book is not good or bad one book is good for me and bad for you it’s about choice
I didn’t read The Hobbit, so cant comment. I did however, like LOTR movies more than the books. I also hate 50 shades, Twilight and The Fountainhead (for different reasons though).
But that’s just me. Not all of us like all books ?
You’re not the only one, I hate it too and can’t seem to understand why people fuss about it
You not enjoying it doesn’t mean it isn’t good.
I hate GoT, but I can see its wonderfulness.
Yes. I couldn’t describe it properly. But this is it. ☺
I didn’t love it, but it’s also not my genre of choice. I respect it’s fandom though. It’s a good book even though it’s not my taste.
A lot of people feel that way. Realize it’s really just a back story to explain the following books.
I’m the same about Harry Potter. I don’t hate them, but didn’t enjoy them like everyone else seems to.

I had read it, and it was OK. I preferred the Lord of the Rings trilogy than The Hobbit….
Not to my taste, caught hell from my family for it.
i love the movie, but can’t deal with the book—the weird songs and poems kept derailing my attention span.
A preferred lord of the rings in not a big fan of Harry snotter ethier

never read it
I enjoyed it but not LOTR
I have to say that I don’t care for fantasy or science fiction. So I’m rather prejudiced against it
I liked the book. Maybe not as much as TLOR but still liked it.
