Melvin Nasasira I like to recommend Tosca Lee. Her novel Iscariot definitely changed how I think about the Gospels. Also her book Demon: A Memoir is great – slightly sci-fi. I think women would relate to, but men would also enjoy, her book Havah: The Story of Eve.
Siri Mitchell is one of the best authors of books that cater to women readers and I love both her modern fiction and her historical fiction.
I have. There was a trilogy called Daisy Chain by Mary E. Demuth. It was excellent.And there was a series called Shenandoah Sisters starting with Angels Watching Over Me by Michael Phillips.Powerful read.
Classic yes..Lewis and Tolkien. I read that many decades ago. “Most” of what I have read contemporary, is either preachy of one sect or another of Christian practice, whether it be fundamentalists, Amish, Catholic, etc. Just my opinion and my personal tastes.
Generally speaking, I would agree with you, Linda. The classics are mostly what I read. If you haven’t tried MacDonald, I would recommend him, especially if you enjoy Lewis and Tolkien. Both were influenced by him, particularly Lewis, who called him his “master.”
I did growing up. The Abby series were my absolute favorite, I had dreams about the new books coming out. Also really liked the Diary of a Teenage girl books. I don’t think I would now though.
Me! Wanna be creeped out read Ted Dekker. He used to be in the category of Christian writer but he’s really broken out out of that mold and is more mainstream now. However, to me no one does the battle between good and evil quite like him!
Very rarely. Christian authors are fine, but I want a full plot. The Christian stories I have read in the past seemed to be very one dimensional. If anyone has a book recommendation I am glad to add something to my TBR pile.
I translate George MacDonald’s Scottish novels into English, if that interests you. They have very full plots and my editions are unabridged-the first time the full novels have been available in translation from the original broad Scots. ( I have two published already, with the third due out in about a month.)
Karen, I’d be interested in what you’d think of Indebted, The Berkshire Dragon. Though it’s YA, I thought it went to extraordinary places, and daringly unconventional.
Its one of the genres I read. My favorite authors are Siri Mitchell and Tosca Lee.
H Lorraine and what are your favorite books?
@Melvin by those authors?
I get you.
