If it’s time for a classic I generally go with one of the shortest, if it’s time for a non-fiction I go with what I have and for the rest it’s what I think I’m in the mood to. I aim to read one classic and one non-fiction each month this year.
Literally just by mood. Sometimes I debate on making a TBR jar, but I feel like it’s a waste of time to sit down and write out all 200+ books on my TBR shelves.
I go with my mood. Sometimes a book sits there for a day or two and then I replace it with another because my mood has changed. I like to mix up genres and favor shorter books over longer ones.
Because I have such a ridiculous amount of TBRs, I don’t have any solid method. But currently what I am trying to do is read at least one “older” TBR for every two new books I read. It’s very hard NOT to read the most recent acquisition first when it’s something you’ve been anticipating for months by a favorite author. But I am trying to be at least a bit disciplined, because my older (by “older” I mean “have been waiting at least 1 year”) TBRs are so many!
I keep mine in order according to the month and year I bought them and read them in that order !!! Right now I’m on the books I bought in July 2015 !!!!
What moves me in the right direction the fastest. Wait — current events. No — when I bought it. Ugh — publication date. Prep for discussion with friends??? Ah-ha! Lay them out in a circle. Spin myself dizzy. The book that ends up closest when I collapse.
I set my books in piles I have my paranormal stacked from order I received them unless I have to many books by the same author then I go every other one, my other adult or ya I just have stacked and pick from my mood and my middle school books I just pick randomly
Whatever takes my mood at the time. Lately I’ve been reading thrillers but I might move on to fantasy or humour or biography. .. I’m sure you get the point lol.
When I get half way through my current book I start thinking what to read next. I start narrowing it down to about 3 or 4 books then when I finish I lay those few out in front of me and look at them. I look at the subject, the thickness, and the author. Then I just randomly pick one
Well, I’m usually reading three or four books at a time. When I can’t decide on the next novel or non-fiction book, I pull out a short-story collection at random and read a couple stories. Since I have well over a hundred SS collections, this has never failed to redirect my taste and make the next choice easier.
Mood I’m in, or I buy more books and read those, lol. I have to work on that because my tbr list is getting out of control and I don’t know if I’ll ever finish it at this rate.
I wouldn’t be worried about that, quite frankly. I mean, if you finish your list, you’ll just ask for recommendations to find more good reads, and next thing you know it’ll start up all over again lol.
It depends on my mood. If I am in the mood for a mystery I’ll pick up one of Sue Grafton’s alphabet series book. ( currently up to P) or a Harlan Coben book. If I want a lighter read I may pick up a book like The Arrangement, which is on my summer reading list. ?
By the time I get just a couple checked off I’ve already added double or triple that back to my list! There are so many books and so few hours in a day! ?
well, I have 3 bookshelves and they are all TBR, because if I love them, I’m going to read them again, whichever one looks good, don’t number then, then out of spite I would totally ruin that list even though I made it.
I actually use a book jar. I put all the titles of the books I want to read in the jar and pick out another book when I’m done with the last one. I like to switch things up!
I just pick the one that looks most interesting at the time. I have a wide variety so I never get bored with reading books of the same general description.
I am guilty of sitting in Goodwill, in their furniture section (nice comfy sofa), reading one of their books. If it grabs me in 2 or 3 chapters, I’ll buy it. If not.. I’ll put it back
For a new bedtime reading book, it has to be one with short chapters or sections where I can stop anywhere, so ones like phrases descriptions are good for this.
gutfeeling about what I would enjoying the most at that moment.
With pain ?
I just pick a book that fits with my mood!
By the number of pages. If a book is shorter, I’ll pick it up sooner so that I can start a new one before too long.
Mood I’m in. I have everything sorted by theme and genre.
sorted! that is smart.. maybe I will do that too… someday 😉
I recommend totes…animals, husbands, and small children love a nicely sorted stack. Chaos reigns. 🙂
LOL, I only have a husband, but I hardly think he’s seeing those books piled up in the corner… he is not a reader.
I just close my eyes and reach for a book.
im terrible, if its got a dog in, i normally choose it first. but if i start a series i have to continue with that
My daughter and I have recently made to read jars for this problem lol
Cry and then buy more books.
I reach in blindly and pick one out. If I don’t fancy it I put it back and try again!
Thank you all!!
I go of my mood at the time ?

Try to resist buying more but then I can’t and it becomes endless. Before I die I’ll maybe finish them all. XD
I just go with what im in the mood for. Sometimes a new read sometimes a re read
I switch up genres each time so that at least limits my choices!
I just go by mood

I get it down to twenty and roll a die. Haha
My mood.
Put the names on a folded memo in a jar and take one. That is the one to read. Finish en klaar.
Ek moet dit ook doen Annette.
I have my lol sister pick she loves it
I go of my mood
Pretty much at random and some times I just grab a bunch and start pounding them back

No — when I bought it.
Ugh — publication date.
Prep for discussion with friends???
Ah-ha! Lay them out in a circle. Spin myself dizzy. The book that ends up closest when I collapse.
Mood has a big impact on my decision
My mood
I don’t it’s a struggle haha
what ever looks good and I am in the mood for
It’s like a library…!!!!! Joy
Read what’s due back at the Library first! If I bought all the books I read, I’d starve to death.
I set my books in piles I have my paranormal stacked from order I received them unless I have to many books by the same author then I go every other one, my other adult or ya I just have stacked and pick from my mood and my middle school books I just pick randomly
I read all of them. Just joking, I don’t really know, I started mine only a week ago!
Depends on my mood! ?
Whatever takes my mood at the time. Lately I’ve been reading thrillers but I might move on to fantasy or humour or biography. .. I’m sure you get the point lol.

I just read whatever grabs my attention.
I usually have a few going at a time anyway lol! There are just too many I always want to read! ?

Lol true, thanks I will continue what I do!
I go by everyone’s comments on the book, what they have to say about it before I decide to read.
My mood.
length.. or title or summary..
Depends on how I feel
Foreword
What I’m in the mood for at the time
The worst is in you are in the mood for a book you still dont have and so you just have to go and buy it ?
so true
THE ONE i JUST BOUGHT!
Close my eyes and pull one off the shelf
I just do and I’m always correct :):):)
I’m doing a challenge which makes choosing the next book easy.
It depends on my mood. If I am in the mood for a mystery I’ll pick up one of Sue Grafton’s alphabet series book. ( currently up to P) or a Harlan Coben book. If I want a lighter read I may pick up a book like The Arrangement, which is on my summer reading list. ?
Go out and get another one? Haha
Eeny meeny miny mo
By the time I get just a couple checked off I’ve already added double or triple that back to my list! There are so many books and so few hours in a day! ?
I go by series, and how long they’ve been on the list! Or sometimes just whatever tickles my fancy!!!! lol
well, I have 3 bookshelves and they are all TBR, because if I love them, I’m going to read them again, whichever one looks good, don’t number then, then out of spite I would totally ruin that list even though I made it.
It depends on my mood. I like to read a good long book that makes me think. Then follow that with a light read like a cozy mystery.
I actually use a book jar. I put all the titles of the books I want to read in the jar and pick out another book when I’m done with the last one. I like to switch things up!
That’s a great idea!
I just pick the one that looks most interesting at the time. I have a wide variety so I never get bored with reading books of the same general description.
I have over a hundred…i just grab one that looks good
I read three or four chapters of each book, whichever one holds my attention is the one I stay with to the end.
Read the first chapter of a randomly selected one and see if I want to continue or try the next one
I am guilty of sitting in Goodwill, in their furniture section (nice comfy sofa), reading one of their books. If it grabs me in 2 or 3 chapters, I’ll buy it. If not.. I’ll put it back
It takes me ages. I can’t pick at random because if I’m not in the right mood for that book I won’t enjoy it.
If I truly have no preference, I will pick 3at random, and then go by earliest copyright date.
For a new bedtime reading book, it has to be one with short chapters or sections where I can stop anywhere, so ones like phrases descriptions are good for this.
I save my tbr list in goodreads.
When I want to read a book, I start with the one I added first because I might lose interest in it later.
