I have 1 of his books but it seems to be book 2 of the Alex Cross series and I’m not sure if they should be read in order or can be read as stand alone novels/individually
@Mikki I never finished it, like the house of night series, I stopped reading because I didn’t want to wait for more meanless books especially when it could have ended sooner.
@Diane yup! First three were great! I’ve read to the end of ‘Nevermore’ and it was shitty. That was supposed to be the end, then a few years later he did ‘forevermore’ and I haven’t even considered reading it
I liked some of his Maximum Ride and Daniel X books but other than that I’m not a super fan. It has nothing to do with him, I’m just not into crime stories. My parents on the other hand love his books. My mom is slowly getting through his Alex Cross series and she’s loving it.
I’m with you. Loved his older ones (he was only author). One of the reasons I don’t rush out to buy his books any more. But I love what he does for schools and independent bookstores.
It makes total sense. His name is pretty much a household name by now. He doesn’t have to do a thing, other unknown writers do the work they put his name on the cover and the ghost writer gets some of the earnings and the rest go to James Patterson for doing nothing.
I’ve read a book of his that I really liked from his Cross detective series. And I read his recent book called “Invisible” that I didn’t like at all. I’m going to be reading more of the Cross novels and I’m gonna give the Women’s Murder Club a try, too. He’s pretty good.
Love them! I am currently reading the latest in the Alex Cross series. Love the womens murder club, the Private series and All the stand alone ones as well ?
I enjoy the short chapters too. My ADHD is terrible so focusing on reading for a long time can be too much. Long chapters are tough on me. The short chapters mean that I can pick it up and get through a few without feeling lost or stuck in the middle.
I wasn’t too fond of the cross novels…they became quite predictable in my opinion…im going to give the women’s murder series a try soon….i still have to read the maximum ride series but I’ve heard GREAT reviews
I like his early ones best. They are so fast moving. They are like candy, while some books are a full meal. I stopped reading the ones with the co-authors.
First 3 Maximum Ride books are good, after that they are crap. The 8th was supposed to be the last, then a few years later he released another and I haven’t read it because it just got so bad.
I liked him when he actually wrote his own books. Lol. I like maximum ride and witch and wizard. I’m not big on crime books, he wrote a couple good ” romance type books”
So, he used to be my favorite author. But i started to get frustrated when he co authored so much because his style was no longer apparent. I eventually stopped reading his “work” altogether when the chapter books started getting cranked out. I felt insulted.
The jury is still out quite honestly…. Hate books that don’t have an ending….some of his books leave me quite frustrated and irritated….won’t spend money on his novels….
his books are good.. at least those he wrote earlier.. the ones he co-authored are not the type that you would really look forward to.. i like John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon more than him, at least on this genre..
I have 1 of his books but it seems to be book 2 of the Alex Cross series and I’m not sure if they should be read in order or can be read as stand alone novels/individually
There is a thread that runs through the series. Read them in order.
Some of his series should have ended sooner.
Like Maximum Ride!
@Mikki I never finished it, like the house of night series, I stopped reading because I didn’t want to wait for more meanless books especially when it could have ended sooner.
But I still love the first three.
@Diane yup! First three were great! I’ve read to the end of ‘Nevermore’ and it was shitty. That was supposed to be the end, then a few years later he did ‘forevermore’ and I haven’t even considered reading it
I used to read his books. Need to revisit them again.
I enjoy his books. They are a quick easy read.
I love them. Womens murder club anything with Alex Cross. Love love love!!!!!
Can’t get into them. A pity as there’s a few months of reading there…
But Richard North Patterson. Now his books are I love. American Legal political.
He uses ghost writers. Personally, this bothers me.
Is that why they feel disconnected even when they are in a series??
Possibly. He uses different ones so they aren’t always continued by the same person. 15 books a year? Lol
This explains so much
Love love love <3 <3 Women's Murder Club series is THE BEST!!!
like his books
I liked some of his Maximum Ride and Daniel X books but other than that I’m not a super fan. It has nothing to do with him, I’m just not into crime stories. My parents on the other hand love his books. My mom is slowly getting through his Alex Cross series and she’s loving it.
Michael Bennet series was awesome
i love womens murder club series ,the alex cross series and michael bennett series
Old stuff better. Quick easy read
I’m with you. Loved his older ones (he was only author). One of the reasons I don’t rush out to buy his books any more. But I love what he does for schools and independent bookstores.
I love his books!
His co-authors do a great job. 🙂
I read one. Enjoyed it. But I don’t like formulaic fiction so one was all I finished.
Love, love Maximum ride series.
Omg same here!!!
Only the first 3, after that he literally lost the plot
Love his books quick easy reads with awesome story lines
I enjoy his books. Beach Road was one of my favorites, Alex Cross, Women’s murder club.
Factory-like assembly-line stories, with razor-thin plots and small characters. :):):)
I like them !!! I haven’t been buying them as much as I used to !!! I saw 2 in the Goodwill yesterday but I’d already read them !!!
Never read them
I love Alex Cross Women’s Murder Club and Michael Bennet series and some of his stand alone are also very good x
Fantastic books
Loved it, but not since he is co-writing.
Toilet paper.
He’s is not a genuine writer. He uses ghost writers and puts his name on the cover. Taking credit for other people’s work. He’s a fake and a fraud
This doesn’t make sense…why is he getting credit for a book if he didn’t write it?
It makes total sense. His name is pretty much a household name by now. He doesn’t have to do a thing, other unknown writers do the work they put his name on the cover and the ghost writer gets some of the earnings and the rest go to James Patterson for doing nothing.
I love him!

Love the womens murder club, the Private series and All the stand alone ones as well ?
I like his books. Very entertaing yet he has fell into a spell of formulaic safe novels. I don’t like how he has become a brand as well.
Love love love!! Suspenseful and I love how the chapters are short so you can just blow through them!
Don’t let the ghost writer or those things get in the way of the writing! In my opinion, the the art is what matters not the life of the artist ?
I enjoy the short chapters too. My ADHD is terrible so focusing on reading for a long time can be too much. Long chapters are tough on me. The short chapters mean that I can pick it up and get through a few without feeling lost or stuck in the middle.
Same here! 1 downfall… when I want to go to bed but I keep doing that “just 1 more chapter” through like 7 of them lol
Blah blah blah that’s how I feel lol
One word predictable
One in a million
Love this original books.
His books are amazing.
Love his books.
Love his books!!!
Love,love love!
I read it one and liked it okay, but then the next was so similar I put it down. Never again.
I like the ones where he writes alone do that keen on his collaborations
I so agree!!!
I don’t read him any more since h started having other collaborate. Never know what I would end up with.
I read NYPD red and didnt think it was as good as his book written alone
Easy readers. I use them as fill ins.
Reading Judge and Jury now. I like it but I am not yet certain on recommending it.
I liked his early Alex Cross books, but don’t read him at all anymore.
Too graphic for me. I don’t like torture being seared into my brain.
Omg my FAVORITE AUTHOR!!
Depends on the book.
I wasn’t too fond of the cross novels…they became quite predictable in my opinion…im going to give the women’s murder series a try soon….i still have to read the maximum ride series but I’ve heard GREAT reviews
The first few are great. But as is his pattern he does too many and it’s beyond predictable
Love his books. Most times I read them in 2 days.
Not interested.
Not a huge fan. I love the Prey books by John Sanford
Started out good. Then turned into crap.
I like his early ones best. They are so fast moving. They are like candy, while some books are a full meal. I stopped reading the ones with the co-authors.
I hear they’re okay but they’re almost everywhere. I always buy books that aren’t so common so I never got to buying and reading them.
First 3 Maximum Ride books are good, after that they are crap. The 8th was supposed to be the last, then a few years later he released another and I haven’t read it because it just got so bad.
Daniel X is okay, same with Witch and Wizard.
I find him to be very arrogant, though
I refused to read after the third witch and wizard book
@Diane wait, wasn’t there only three?
@Mikki after the last one there’s the kiss and then the lost
@Diane oml I thought it ended after 3
@Mikki sadly no
Love them!! Reading Invisible right now, cant put it down
The early ones are good
<3 them.....just finished Crazy House, another great read by James Patterson :-)
I love his books 🙂
He has ghost writers!
oh my! really?
His books are pretty graphic, but I loved The Post Card Killers once I got into it.
I don’t mind graphic
I also liked the first four Women’s Murder Club books.
And I’m working through the Private series.
Best books ever. I super love him. ❤️
Love them!
Love James Patterson!!
Love Patterson
I like the earlier books, but the new ones , not so much.
I liked him when he actually wrote his own books. Lol. I like maximum ride and witch and wizard. I’m not big on crime books, he wrote a couple good ” romance type books”
,love all except the Thomas Berryman number
Love his books
So, he used to be my favorite author. But i started to get frustrated when he co authored so much because his style was no longer apparent. I eventually stopped reading his “work” altogether when the chapter books started getting cranked out. I felt insulted.
Im a fan of his Women’s murder club love all the thrill and characters 🙂
Those books are perhaps his best writing….pity about some if his others like The Summons and The Testament.
I agree with you,Its the only series i like of his books.im not a fan of his first love book 🙂
You and me both Che….
i haven’t read any , but i know my mom and sister love his books.
I read his Michael Bennett series and I love it!!!!
I love to read on the front porch in the swing with a cup of coffee when there is a nice shade and the breeze is blowing
