Meh… As I‘m approaching 50, I‘m probably not the target audience, but I DID like some of his other books. But not this one. I just really do not like Alaska, to me, she remains a manipulative, conceited, put-on little b!***. ? — And I think the author meant the reader to like her! ?
I agree. I could tell he was going for the MC being “quirky and unpredictable” but I just couldn’t feel it. I think “Looking for Alaska” was his first published novel, so he may have been a little inexperienced in those days.
I watched a series on YouTube called Crash Course. I watched the Literature section and really enjoyed the style of the presenter. It was Mr Green who presented It! Never realised that he was a writer. I have just got a copy, second hand, of An abundance of Kathrines. What is people’s thoughts concerning this novel?
I pretty much compare all of John Green’s books to “The Fault in our Stars”. Looking for Alaska is an ok read, but I’m glad I borrowed instead of buying.
I was astounded that it was his first book. I had some quibbles, but overall I thought it was beautifully constructed and profound in a YA-appropriate way.
It’s my favourite John green book ?

I’m 46 and read it for book club last year. I didn’t like it at all.
