As much as I wanted to love this, I ended up quitting about 2/3 of the way in. I even tried the audiobook and was thrilled that Malala read the introduction but then a different narrator took over for the rest of the book and I had a hard time listening after that (it wasn’t the accent but rather the lack of emotion). I love her story of courage and perseverance but the book was tedious. I’d love to see her in person, though ❤️
Hated it and didn’t finish. I found her very self-congratulatory. I’m sure she deserves to be, but that didn’t make for a good book. For me. Others’ mileage obviously varies. ?
I agree that the book left me a little disappointed. It didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know from reading news articles about Malala. I would recommend watching the documentary He Named Me Malala. I think it might be available on Hulu. It has a lot more charm and personal insight than the book.
I thought it was a really good and important read. Maybe hang in there a bit longer?
I will. Its a book challenge book.
It’s not the best writing, but you can learn so much from her and about the history of Pakistan in the book.
Yes, agree! I found it difficult to read at times but learned so much.
I know what you mean I put it down and never got back to it
Keep reading!!!
Hang in there. It’s worth the read. She’s such a brave young woman.
Same. I find that few of the books that “everyone” is talking about are ones that I like. 🙂
Listen to the audio book. It was great!
I may end up doing just this.
I read the young person edition – just enough info
I watched the movie two nights ago, and was entranced. Whether via book or movie, this story needs to be told.
where was the movie?
@Angelika it’s on Hulu.
I read this and enjoyed it, after I got past the fact that it is written by a young girl. Not my all time favorite, but it was decent.
It’s pretty slow, but important and worthwhile, IMO.
I also found it slow, but it is an important read. She is so brave and such an inspiration
I found the audiobook a lot easier to follow along with, I kept getting held up on the different town names and such
That is also part of my problem.
I thought the book was quite inspirational and informative.
Very inspirational. This was a book on my daughters’s Pre-AP reading list.
It gave me a better understanding of a certain religion. And yes, stick with it if you can.
Stick with it. It’s an incredible memoir.
I couldn’t finish it.
It’s the story, her story that’s so inspiring.
The book could have used more editing…

I am with you. It didn’t work for me
Left it after some 50 pages… Not captivating
I loved it. Found it quite inspirational.
I had a really hard time. I gave up rather quickly. It jumped around too much. I got lost and not immersed

Impressive young woman but not very well written.
Her courage is inspiring.
I did not like it either. Just did not sound like her true voice.

I found it inspiring.
