Yes I read it three times of the course of my degree (literature, sociology and psychology units) and each time I got something new out of it. Love it.
It was very different from the type of books I normally read but I liked it a lot. It was written quite a few years ago it still has a message for the current environment we’re living in now.
I thought the book although written a while back could be something that could be realized during this time when a faction of the men are running the world or trying to dictate what happens to women and their bodies especially in reproductive areas and trivializing whenn women are violated
It’s a classic. It’s not meant to be entertaining, it’s meant to wake you up to the possibilities of a theocracy as government. The first thing any oppressor does is go after the women – this is true all over the world.
It’s a classic. I liked it. But this is one of the rare few times where I will say I prefer the TV show over the book. It opened my eyes to the possibilities of what could happen. I’m not a fan of open ended books, but I will say that I am looking forward to Atwood’s sequeal called The Testaments to this book which will come out September 10th 2019. I have already pre-ordered the book.
As relevant as it is, it’s not my favorite by her. There were a lot of aspects I loved though, like how she uses bits of real history as inspiration to piece together her novel, and how she demonstrates the invasive thoughts of being watched that keep Offred from even having complete mental freedom.
I felt I had lots of unanswered questions once I’d finished it, some of which are apparently addressed in the series. Watched the first episode which at the end of it my boyfriend looked at me and said “I haven’t got a clue what that was all about” ? so I haven’t bothered with the rest.
Its brilliant and I hate it. Its like mission accomplishment Margaret Atwood you’ve drawn out all my emotions on this one. That world is scary and makes me uneasy (that’s where the hate comes in).
This is one of those books that it seems wrong to say I liked or loved. It’s thought-provoking and profound. It’s an important novel that should be read and discussed in every high school in the country–even with the horrific reproductive scenes. It’s depressing and disturbing. It’s absolutely worth reading, but you won’t feel good afterwards.
I didn’t like it or dislike it. I’m glad I read it but can’t say I enjoyed it.
I read the book but liked the movie better
It was twisted, but I loved it. And I love the series on Hulu even more!
@Amy ditto
It’s on my tbr list. It very high up, I’m afraid.
Not that high up, that is
I liked the book, but I LOVED the show! I’m fairly certain this is one of the only times I’ve preferred the show/movie over the book. ?
Agree!!! ?
It was very, very intense…. almost too intense, scary
Agree!
I read it right after I had my son. It was a mind flip, that’s for sure.
I got bored to death with the book but I loved the tv show!
creepy
Loved book & show!
Very impressed. Sorry it took me so long to read it!
Yes I read it three times of the course of my degree (literature, sociology and psychology units) and each time I got something new out of it. Love it.
Really loved the book but couldn’t get on with the tv show.
I only got through the first season and found that they seemed to focus more on the violence than I thought was necessary.
I read it years ago when it was first published. Too dystopian for me.
It was very different from the type of books I normally read but I liked it a lot. It was written quite a few years ago it still has a message for the current environment we’re living in now.
@Rudette I agree. It’s more poignant now than when first published. Sorta like life imitating art.
Not my fav—
agreed
Read it many years ago. Today it seems even more timely, and as a result, even more horrifying.
@Mary I agree. I thought it was a warning when I read it so many years ago. Now it seems prophetic and terrifying.
@Mary Exactly.
How I felt when I read it the first time last year. If it wasn’t that it almost could come true, I’d say I loved it.
@Sally I think about it in relation to what’s going on currently with “baby it’s cold outside!”
I actually liked it. Glad a sequel is coming out.
Really liked it. Took an episode or two to get hooked but hooked I am! Anxious for season 2!!
There aren’t any quotation marks! Bothered me to no end.
Thanks guys, I’m 75% done with the audio book and I really wasn’t that impressed. So I thought I would get your thoughts on it.
Happy holiday!
@Smittyg I’m in the minority as I didn’t like it at all.
Thought it was pretty meh. Wasn’t sure what the hype was about. Thought about trying the show to see if its better
Hated it?
I liked the Book. And if I don’t associate the two I enjoyed the show as well.
Like. Not love.
I am not sure that “like” is the word I would use, but it isn’t a book that has ever stopped resonating.
Disliked it
I really enjoyed reading it. Scary, but relevant.
Couldn’t finish it
While I found it disturbing (because I could almost see the story playing out in real life), I liked it.
LOVED it! listened to it on audible, Claire Danes narrated it
Read it in 1990…..was avante garde then! No discussion for sure.
I read it a long time ago and remember that I liked it ….but not the story line.
I didn’t @ didn’t like ANY of the characters. Love the genre, hated this book
hated the book, hated the show
I was disappointed
Disappointed after all the hype, the show is better

I’ve read it but not my favorite.
Loved it.
It’s been so long since I read it. Just remember liking it, though finding it depressing and a bit scary.
There are other books by Margaret Atwood that I liked much more.
The narration is great, but I was so mad at the end. Ugh…
I read that she is writing a sequel that maybe released
next year. It picks up is years after
15 years
Publication date Sept 10, 2019. I’m looking forward to it.
didn’t like the ending
It’s a book we’re meant to learn from. Everything doesn’t always tie up neatly.
Loved the book. Hated the show.
You are unique, indeed! Lol
It was just ok, for me
The book really makes you contemplate what ifs
I did not like it at all. Really not into destopian
Very significant in these times
As women’s rights are attacked here.
??

I liked it, even though I was raging all the way through it lol xxx
I didn’t like it at all. Very over rated
Love it- just to think it’s a reality for some women in 2018 –
The TV show by HULU is awesome!!!
I didn’t like the book, but I have been enjoying the show on hulu a lot!
LOVE the book & the show!
Margaret Attwood is not an easy read, but I like her work.
The show is AMAZING
I felt I had lots of unanswered questions once I’d finished it, some of which are apparently addressed in the series. Watched the first episode which at the end of it my boyfriend looked at me and said “I haven’t got a clue what that was all about” ? so I haven’t bothered with the rest.
Not a favorite
Love it and have re-read it several times. Very topical, sadly

Well said!!
Yes!
You either love it or hate it. I loved it
Didn’t like it at all. Show was even worse
