Have watched first series and now starting second of handmaids tale. Is it worth getting the book as they often leave stuff out.

Maragret Attwood is involved in the TV series so I imagine what is onscreen is correlated with the novel. But I think the series from what I have been told is more a series based on the set up
I’d recommend reading the book.
The book is amazing xx
I have watched the series first. Big mistake. Book always better first. I love it.
I disagree, I find reading first ruins my enjoyment of the adaption. The Cadfel series was an example of this
The book is brilliant, but you don’t need to read it to fully grasp the TV show.
Think I’ll get it. Love the series.
The first series is based on the novel but I believe series 2 takes the characters on beyond the book. However, as has already mentioned, Margaret Attwood is involved in both series, so I am sure her vision of things must be heavily influential. I read the book many years ago & enjoyed it but couldn’t remember much detail when it came to watching the series so enjoyed that too.
It’s one of those books where the world itself is worth exploring
There are significant differences between the novel and the series. I love the book and usually don’t like films/series as much. I love the series too but there are differences.
I hated the book and think it is one of the worst things I have ever read. However, as you can see i’m in the minority ☺
I didn’t like the book at all either which has put me off watching the series.
Me too Julie.
Read the book too. she is a superb writer.
The book is just brilliant.
I found the first episode hard to watch – it’s not going to get any easier, is it?!
Probably not. But I think it’s worth giving it a chance.
@Angela Yes, I thought the first series was excellent.
@Bernie I started watching the first episode of series two on Sunday. Brilliant.
What if this became reality. Scary. You want to punch Lydia.
@Monya Ii feel sorry for her – what a wretched life she must have led for this to be an acceptable alternative!
Apparently there is a similar parallel that happened in New Zealand. Named Gloriavale.
@Bernie yes makes you wonder
