The first one was okay and then it all goes down hill from there. I think the amount you enjoy it depends on how many YA dystopians you have read. Because I have read a lot and her series was like the same. But give it a try – you could love it! 🙂
I have to agree with most of the comments here: first book was great establishing the characters and story and then the rest of the books lost their luster. I just finished War Storm and I felt like the story line went around in circles! Plus the writing was missing the emotion; the connection to the characters was sub-par. Loved the different view points though!
There are many mixed reviews about it.. many of them being that it was blend of some books.. tbh I hadn’t read all of them so it was great for me! I loved the first one a lot, the second book was okay, the third was good but I haven’t gotten around to reading war storm yet.
Horrible waste of time. Writing is painfully juvenile at times, character is non-consistent, love triangle is forced, romance is insta, and later books are so MarySue-ish it’s not even funny.
The writing is poor, the plot lacks originality, the characters are flat and poorly developed, the dialogue is repetitive, the romance is unbelieveable/un-relatable, and on the whole it is very, very underwhelming. I was excited to start it because so many people had recommended it, but couldn’t stomach finishing the books. I Googled the ending so I could have closure and called it done. It is a series can say with almost 100% certainty that I will never read again, nor would I seek out other books by Aveyard.
Same! I actually laughed at the stupidity of writing at the end of first book when Mare said to younger guy (can’t remember name) I HAVE LOVED YOU!!! And I was like… dude, WHEN? xD Literally two lines before that she was swooning while thinking of his older bro xD
@Ewa – it was horrible! She only JUST meets Cal briefly while trying to rob him and suddenly she is deeply in love with him? But then five minutes later loves his brother just as deeply? WTF??? Terrible. Romance should have a slow burn to it. Attraction can be fast, but an author needs to let the read SEE the romance grow, not just be told that it happened instantaneously!
Lazy writing. The only characters I was interested in was the metal girl and her brother, but he turned out to be asshole OF COURSE and not sure what happened with her, but I don’t believe she was as great, as she was (as that was probably by mistake, while trying to portray her as unsympathetic xD)
I loved the first one, read it in one sitting. Second one was so horribly slow and boring but sometimes second books are so I picked up the third and dnf it.
I loved book 1, but I liked book 2 a lot less and liked book 3 even less. I haven’t read the fourth yet, but I’m going to try it. If you haven’t started the series yet, I wouldn’t recommend starting it, there are many better books out there
I read the first book and it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever read but I was bored by it more often than not and it was a struggle to make myself finish. After seeing that the first is probably the best of the series I doubt I’ll read the rest.
Book one 3.5 stars Book two 2 stars too slow paced. Book 3. 75 stars. Book 4 don’t even get me started on this all those waiting and I was utterly disappointed. I have read it half and left it like that to pick up later.
Oh no. I am waiting for March. The third is finally in paper back then. I have been counting down too. I was hoping with the way the second ended it was going to be amazing.
I just started it last night and I don’t love her writing, it’s sounds very juvenile and unintelligent. Honestly, the best way I can describe it is someone just decided to write a book without having much skill. I’m enjoying the story so far, but not the writing.
Love it – first book is amazing, second and third books aren’t as good but that’s kind of what I expect from series nowadays haha. Haven’t read War Storm yet but it’s coming
I tried reading the first one and I didn’t like it so I stopped and returned it. I think I read the like first 15 pages and hated it. It was too much like the hunger games for me.
Ummm… I WANT to like it because I love her. But I’m really struggling with it.
The first one is pretty good. Second one is a bit boring.
I really enjoyed the series (haven’t read War Storm yet)
Loved the series except glass sword the second book. I had to force myself to finish
It’s definitely not as exciting as the first. I’m struggling to get through it and move on.
@Tina yea it definitely isn’t. Kings cage is really good though so its worth pushing through glass sword
I stopped reading the second one. Seemed very repetitive when she talked about herself

I couldnt do it. I quit halfway through the first one. I was bored to tears.
There are many mixed reviews about it.. many of them being that it was blend of some books.. tbh I hadn’t read all of them so it was great for me! I loved the first one a lot, the second book was okay, the third was good but I haven’t gotten around to reading war storm yet.
I enjoyed it to be honest. Pretty sure I’m the only one that has! I did wish to have another’s MC’a POV beforehand. But overall 3 1/2 starts out of 5
I enjoyed it too.
Me too

I’ve only read red queen but after reading all the reviews I’m not going to bother finishing the series
Same for me
only read the rest of the books for a specific character..

@Ewa – I can tell you what happened to Evangeline if you want, buy I will PM so I don’t post any spoilers for people still wanting to read the series.
Was really good until it got to the end. The end made the whole series not feel worth it.
My review of Red Queen:
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
#Pitiful #AWASTEofTime
@Teena @Skylar Do we tell them the truth, or nah? ?
Love it!
I loved the first one, read it in one sitting. Second one was so horribly slow and boring but sometimes second books are so I picked up the third and dnf it.
I read the first book but didn’t like it…
I loved the first book and the second book but the third and fourth were kinda just dragging on
You’re going to get polarizing opinions. Everyone I’ve seen has either loved or hated it, no in between
That is so true.
Lots of mixed reviews, but the general consensus is “Underwhelming”. I DNF’d at book one ??♀️
Liked the first book can’t get through the second and am giving up the series
Like Elsa, let it go.
Horrible!
It’s honestly so freaking good I didn’t want it to end
Liked it overall but really mare was wayyy tooo annoying, whiny and selfish for my liking.I only read till the third book.
I loved book 1, but I liked book 2 a lot less and liked book 3 even less. I haven’t read the fourth yet, but I’m going to try it. If you haven’t started the series yet, I wouldn’t recommend starting it, there are many better books out there

The first three books of this series is good (not that much) but the last one is horrible. I wasted my time and money.
Agree
Book one 3.5 stars
Book two 2 stars too slow paced.
Book 3. 75 stars.
Book 4 don’t even get me started on this all those waiting and I was utterly disappointed. I have read it half and left it like that to pick up later.
Thank you for the reviews!
Meh!!! It was struggle to get through.
Love it!
Meh..
I thought the first one was ok. Then it all went downhill from there
I liked it. It was worth the read
Boring
I loved the first one, second was ok and I DNFd King’s Crown because I couldn’t deal with the constant whiny internal monologue by both narrators ?
Loved it
I didn’t like the first book. I wanted to pull through though and finish it but so many people said it isn’t worth it
I have a serious hate love relationship with this series. Some of it was great but other parts were lacking. I wasn’t a fan of the ending.
It was good enough to read but not to buy
The first book was amazing the second was slow and boring and the third was horrible

I only read the first one and I enjoyed it but not enough to pick up the second book
The first two were good keeps your attention the last two meh..
Cool concept, shit characters and writing.
Love

I enjoyed it. I’m rereading it right now, actually.
Loved the first one, hated the second. DNF
I read Red Queen cause of bingo and I couldn’t stop ?
So good!
10/10
I read them all in the last week. It was amazing! Perhaps not as great as ACOTAR, but great nevertheless 🙂
I loved the first book!!! (And only the first book)
I love the first book but the second was disappointing
Run away from it while you still have time
I absolutely loved it
