Station Eleven and Zone One are my favorites. There’s also The Dog Stars and The Age of Miracles. And I second The Road. Oh and for a classic, read The Scarlet Plague. It’s a novella by Stephen Crane. Published in the early 20th century. It’s great.
Chaos Walking Series by Patrick Ness, Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi, Pure series by Julianna Baggot, The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, and Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi.
Severance by Ling Ma. It’s what happens when the apocalypse comes in the form of tedium. It’s weird and sparse and disaffected. It was my favorite book of 2018. And also, I echo Station Eleven, which is basically the opposite of Severance.

Infected Trilogy by Scott Sigler, Enclave series by Ann Aguirre, Dry by Neal Shusterman, and The Rains by Gregg Hurwitz, and one more that shocked me! Plagueland by Alex Scarrow.
