I read this a few months ago. To me it was obvious that the author hadn’t actually visited Auschwitz, as it lacked the fear & humanity. I think if she had the book would have benefited.
@A.j. it would have been a very different book for certain. Perhaps she wasn’t after that side of it. After all its been done a lot. Telling the love story that survived is what I took from it xx
I read this a while ago…I must say I never noticed the long chapters. I was just amazed by the fact that it was based on real lives, it my opinion no way did it romanticise the camps…Lale Sokolov liaised with the author and it’s his memories.
Must be me then been used to chapters that are around 4_5 pages.enjoying it but hard going in 5 min stints(used to read a chapter or two in my smoke breaks)
Finished,very different from what I would normally read but very easy to read… be nice to see this made into a film provided they stick to the book nothing needs changing
I hate long chapters
I didn’t really enjoy this book tbh xx
I have this on audible waiting for me.
I’m reading this atm too. I haven’t noticed the long chapters tbh. I’m enjoying it so far
@Lisa ..I did too.
I’m enjoying it , not noticed the long chapters.
I listened on audible and enjoyed it x
I read this in 2 afternoons whilst glamping this summer. It wasn’t what I expected at all. Not horrifying etc. X

Very true Donna but I think a realistic scene needed to be set, the way it was done almost romanticised the prison camp.
@A.j. did you think so? I love how we all see things differently. I didn’t get any romanticism from the camp itself. Xx
Great book

Amazing book and written with great empathy. We all know what happened in the camps and it was a lovely read where love triumphed over evil.
