The Princess Diaries…book and movie were both good but since they wanted Julie Andrews for the queen, they changed her character completely, I think it would have been interesting to see both versions(with somebody else as queen).
I could imagine, as the book is pretty long. I was bored, finding the book tedious and slow. When I found myself shortly past half way through, I was disappointed I wasn’t farther along.
I saw the movie first and really enjoyed it. I had heard a lot of people rip it apart for not being like the book so I decided to try reading it. I couldn’t get past the first chapter that was told from the point of view of the horse.
There are many where i like both, and since they have different strengths as art forms, i try to avoid comparing— unless one is a total letdown. Two classics that i love both are Gone With The Wind and The Wizard of Oz. Recently loved both versions of The Book Thief.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Movies were great and so enjoyable to watch. Loved all of them. The Books are OFF the chain hard reading and took forever.
The Vow, definitely! Maybe because I saw the fim first. Heaven Is For Real, I love the book and the film equally. Maybe the book a lil bit more but I do truly loooove the film as well! I’ll watch it again for sure!
The Exorcist. The book was terrible. The characters were flat and one dimensional. The dialogue was stiff and lifeless. Each time I have read it I disliked it more. The film improves all the faults and flaws of the novel. But be absolutely honest neither one ever really scared me.
@Genny When I watch a movie adapted from a book I have the impression that the director of the film did not read the book carefully. I know it’s very difficult for a movie to cover every aspect of a book. The movie would get very long and expensive.
@Gilmar I believe very similar words have frequently left my mouth. I am in grievous ire regarding The Cider House Rules movie!! John Irving even consulted and I believe directed!! After I slogged through the movie I actually yelled, “did you not read your own book?!” ???
@Gilmar I remember the movie adapted book for The Goonies and I loved it. It had the part with the giant octopus in it that was cut out of the movie but is mentioned at the end of the movie and more. I saw Forrest Gump first and couldn’t figure out how the book and the movie were related
@Amy I do not know how to fully understand what you said. My English is small. I believe you are referring to the frustrated expectation of an adaptation of a book for a movie. I agree with you, but we must not forget that book and film are different means of expression. However, there are good and bad adaptations.
@Gilmar you have a very good grasp of English. Also that was a very good point about books and film being different forms of expression. I remember reading Rosemary’s Baby and then watching the movie right after it and the dialogue in the movie was word for word from the book. I remember thinking that I didn’t need to see the movie at all since I’d read the book. As you said, two different forms of expression
Bridget Jones’s Diary ….. the book was terrible, I’m surprised it got turned into a movie. Also, Sex & the City book sucked big time but I loved the TV series.
I love Wuthering Heights 70’s movie. I went to see the Timothy Dalton movie and fell in love with Timothy’s Heatcliff. That same day i went with my father to bought the book. I also collect the different versions of the movie, been Fiennes my second loved Heatcliff.
Girl interrupted. The book was shit lol
agreed!

Indecent proposal
That was a book?
@Paula yes, by jack engelhard and it was boring…when the movie gave me all sorts of emotions…

There are many where i like both, and since they have different strengths as art forms, i try to avoid comparing— unless one is a total letdown. Two classics that i love both are Gone With The Wind and The Wizard of Oz. Recently loved both versions of The Book Thief.
I thought both film adaptations of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory were great. Loved the book.
The Woman in Black
I didn’t know there was a book for that movie!
I love the book and hated the changes they made in the film. The stage play is excellent though.
@Erin Yup! Pretty uneventful though… Thought the movie was better cause of all the movie trickery and music etc that gets used to add atmosphere!
@Jänet I’m the opposite. Don’t hate the book, but not mad on it either, whereas I really like the movie!
Jaws I read the book, not a patch on the movie with its mind blowing visuals
agreed

I loved the book. ? Although I thought the Daniela Denby-Ashe and Richard Armitage adaptation was excellent ?
I love the book as well. But not as much as Richard Armitage as Thornton. *swoon*
Now I’m worried because I loved that adaptation but I’ve been thinking of reading the book lately?
@Tracey definitely read it. You won’t regret it but you’ll also want to watch the mini series again.
Thanks Rachelle?
The book is so good, but that scene in the train station is life!!!
@Krista Yes girl. Yes
Train station scene and proposal scene are what make the movie better for me. Thornton is my fake husband. Haha
Jaws
Forrest Gump

Princess bride
Shawshank redemption, stand by me,
Stand By Me is so much better as a movie.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Movies were great and so enjoyable to watch. Loved all of them. The Books are OFF the chain hard reading and took forever.

I read the book after seeing the show and was Not expecting the totally different ending!!! ?
The Vow, definitely! Maybe because I saw the fim first. Heaven Is For Real, I love the book and the film equally. Maybe the book a lil bit more but I do truly loooove the film as well! I’ll watch it again for sure!

The Notebook ????
I liked Stardust better as a movie, but that was some years ago…
The Princess Diaries
Ready Player One
The Notebook
Never ending story
Everything is Illuminated, despite the fact they changed a few critical things, but things that worked out well.
The Exorcist. The book was terrible. The characters were flat and one dimensional. The dialogue was stiff and lifeless. Each time I have read it I disliked it more. The film improves all the faults and flaws of the novel. But be absolutely honest neither one ever really scared me.
The Exorcist and The Notebook
IT
LOTR
Bridges of Madison County.
Bridget Jones
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Stand By Me (a novella; “The Body” by Stephen King)

Of Mice And Men George Steinbeck!
So many good stories and movies !
But I have never honestly seen a movie that portrayed a book very well!
The Stand
Stephen King was good too!
Practical Magic
Giant. The novel reads like a travel guide of Texas.
The notebook
The Godfather
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief
Fight Club. Still a Palahniuk fan though
I do not remember that this ever happened. I always like always like the book more than film adaptation.
I always thought so as well until Forrest Gump
I’m always in favour of the book, but my only exception Everything is Illuminated, as I mentioned earlier.
@Amy I think this can happen with movies adapted books. Forrest Gump I just watched the movie and I really enjoyed it.
@Genny When I watch a movie adapted from a book I have the impression that the director of the film did not read the book carefully. I know it’s very difficult for a movie to cover every aspect of a book. The movie would get very long and expensive.

I love Wuthering Heights 70’s movie. I went to see the Timothy Dalton movie and fell in love with Timothy’s Heatcliff. That same day i went with my father to bought the book. I also collect the different versions of the movie, been Fiennes my second loved Heatcliff.
