Begrudgingly accept it, ask her to read Slaughterhouse Five, and bond over that instead. If she doesn’t like that, you gotta throw out the whole girlfriend ?
Well, you probably hate one of your books. I like Gatsby, but a lot people don’t. If you ask me, it’s a reality show set in the 1920’s, which is weird because I hate reality shows.
Sorry, I don’t like it, either ? and I have a hubby who HATES all fiction books ? but you know what? That’s up to him because he’s his own person and we’re 19 years married today so it’s not caused a problem so far ?
Read Theodore Dreiser’s “An American Tragedy,” wait for her to realize how much better the Great Gatsby is, boom. Saved. Or, accept it and realize there are much better books out in the world than Fitzgerald’s Gatsby.
I think you’ll find most of the people who really love The Great Gatsby are men. It’s a book written very much for other men from a man’s POV. Unless your relationship is predicated on a single book, I think you two will be fine. Surely there are other books you’ve both read that you can talk about?
Great point! I wasn’t a big fan of book. I had to read it for my English class and didn’t enjoy it. Later on, I tried to read it again because maybe I didn’t enjoy it cause I was forced to read it, right? Nope. Still couldn’t get into it lol.
Excellent point! I I think women have tons of options with strong heroines, more all the time, and so some of the appeal of reading a classic written by a white, straight, male author is lost.
Well hopefully you have tons of money to distract her. Maybe through huge parties too and invite everyone you both ever met. You know, distract her. *Love her,* I mean love her
The book or the movie ? I liked the book enough but couldn’t even finish the movie because Tobey Macguire makes me feel super awkward and uncomfortable ?
Realize that basing a relationship on the idea that you both have to like the same things is stupid and childish. As people say – variety is the spice of life. The same can be said of relationships
Well, you could always become a producer and release your own version of the movie where Tom is the one that runs Myrtle over and Wilson shoots him, Gatsby and Daisy elope and Nick doesn’t lose a good friend? Yeah, that ought to save the relationship between the three. ?
By excepting the fact she doesn’t like the book and she has her choice in reading and you have yours. Relationships isn’t based on books eachother like.. I hope!!!!
She has good taste ?
I love that book… hate all of the characters with a passion… but love the book
Not a fan myself. I enjoy the writing but felt completely disconnected from the story and characters.
Begrudgingly accept it, ask her to read Slaughterhouse Five, and bond over that instead. If she doesn’t like that, you gotta throw out the whole girlfriend ?
Keep calm and carry on
Keep trying with another book.
Read the book to here it might change here mind
I didn’t like either!
It’s a boring book with very unlikable bratty characters. She has good taste. You should look at reading what she likes instead.
I didn’t like the book either
People love it or hate it. I liked the book though the characters were pretty unlikable so when I finished it I was also torn with myself. ?
Throw her away. She’s broken
Well, you probably hate one of your books. I like Gatsby, but a lot people don’t. If you ask me, it’s a reality show set in the 1920’s, which is weird because I hate reality shows.
Umm then show her the movie.. it’s not as good as the book but maybe leo’s looks might save u?
You can’t
I dont like a lot of classical literature.
I think its one you either love or hate.
Nor do I
Why does it matter?
I didn’t like it either.
Sorry, I don’t like it, either ? and I have a hubby who HATES all fiction books ? but you know what? That’s up to him because he’s his own person and we’re 19 years married today so it’s not caused a problem so far ?
I guess she’s not your Daisy
At least this means he’ll come out of this relationship alive
#teamgirlfriend. I don’t like the great gatsby either
Reminds me of a Confederate Railroad song, “She never cried when Old Yeller died.”
You can’t. She deserves better than someone who judges her for her taste in books.
Everyone has different tastes.
Maybe just appreciate that you have a significant other who likes to read as well and be good with that?
P.s. I love the great Gatsby ?
If she’s a reader, and you’re a reader, be happy. Having all the same books in common is asking for the moon when you already have the stars. 🙂
Give her my number. I thought it was crap, too. 😉
I don’t have time for the book but the movie is incredible
donot let it come between you
I didn’t love it either
Omg as if all of you are taking this seriously hahahaha
You don’t.
by accepting it n criticizing something she loves 😀
Throw the gf away old sport jk
gatsby is a great work xD
You’ll live
Accept that she can and will have her own opinions.
If she like Leonardo DiCaprio she might enjoy the movie. It might work if there’s a way to compare the story and movie.
Find a better book
Read Theodore Dreiser’s “An American Tragedy,” wait for her to realize how much better the Great Gatsby is, boom. Saved. Or, accept it and realize there are much better books out in the world than Fitzgerald’s Gatsby.
Let it go. I don’t know anyone who liked it.
Lol respect her opinion.
It’s over dude..
Shouldn’t matter.
I’ve never read it ??♀️
It’s OK but if she doesn’t like star wars that’s a different story.
Yes. Then you should marry her.
I mean I’m on her side

I love the Great Gatsby and I’m a female.
Respect her opinion cause she’s right lol
Daisy is the worst character in the world Gag
I enjoyed reading this book even if it was for class. Daisy was annoying as hell but it was still a good read for me aha
At least she read it. I put it down several times, then forced myself through every page. Didn’t like movie either.
Accept that there will be things you disagree on.
Hated daisy. She was such a snob
Lol, I guess you should read Zelda’s Novel then.
Realize that basing a relationship on the idea that you both have to like the same things is stupid and childish. As people say – variety is the spice of life. The same can be said of relationships
So have you decided what to do?
I’m thinking that she should be the one breaking up with you. Lolololol ?
Eh. I don’t like it either. My husband isn’t a reader at all. ??♀️
Well, you could always become a producer and release your own version of the movie where Tom is the one that runs Myrtle over and Wilson shoots him, Gatsby and Daisy elope and Nick doesn’t lose a good friend? Yeah, that ought to save the relationship between the three. ?
Show her the family guy episode
You don’t ? Just kidding! It could be worse… As in, she might not read at all ??
A tragedy
By excepting the fact she doesn’t like the book and she has her choice in reading and you have yours. Relationships isn’t based on books eachother like.. I hope!!!!
Show her Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby.. she will change her mind.. start with the movie ..!it encourages many to move on to books
