Looking for suggestions for the best eReaders?
Hi everyone! I’m looking for suggestions for the best eReaders? I’m thinking I may give them a chance!
Hi everyone! I’m looking for suggestions for the best eReaders? I’m thinking I may give them a chance!
I have an iPad mini. I use my nook, kindle and Audible apps all on one device. Book sized and convenient.
Thank you!
I have the IPad mini too & I love it. It fits in my purse & I can take it anywhere easily.
I forgot to add that I also have my library apps on my device. I also own several nooks and a kindle paperwhite but I mostly use my iPad mini. I like having all my options in one place.
Another iPad mini fan. Not a lot of other things to carry around. Plus if the book gets boring you can check your email ?
I love my Kindle Paperwhite
Thank you! Is the paperwhite the device with no glare on the screen?
Yes @Deidra. It also has a screen backlight for reading in the dark. I love my paperwhite!
Thank you @Nikkie!
I’ve only ever had Kindles. I really like my paperwhite
Thank you!
I love my kindle only use paperback near pool.
I love my iPad.
The Kindle or the Kindle app on the device of your choice.
Kindle paperwhite.
I love my Kindle ❤️
I have a Kindle and the Kindle app on my phone.
Honestly, get a tablet that you feel comfortable with. I suggest downloading Kindle, using Google Play Books (if it’s a Samsung device), and Overdrive (if you have a library card it allows you to check out ebooks for up to 14 days).
Yes, agreed!
Kindle paperwhite
Love my Kindle Paperwhite ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Much lighter than a tablet.
I used my iPad for years. Now love my PW.
Kindle Paperwhite. Lightweight, easy to use, backlit…if you have Amazon Prime wait for Prime Day (7/16) for possible price cuts.
Is prime day once a year? Or a monthly deal?
Thank you!
@Lynette one a year. Special deals. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/amazon-prime-day-2018-the-best-deals-so-far-wednesday/
I recently purchased a Nook glowlight. For the price it is wonky and unpredictable.
Bookmarking is unreliable. Loading is cumbersome. Getting library books on it is very clunky. Buttons are not well placed.
I can not in good conscience recommend it.
So frustrating. Sorry to hear it was bunk.
So sorry! But thank you for the honest advice!
My sister used to use a kindle but now she just uses her iPad. I use my iPhone and my android tablet. But I do the majority of reading from hard copy books. I like the digital for when I’m away from home.
I have an original Nook that still works perfectly, but I more often read ebooks on my iPad. I like having hundreds of books stored and ready to read, and I like not having to take two devices with me when I go on vacation.
Kindle Paperwhite. It is front lit (quoted from their page: “Kindle Paperwhite guides light toward the surface of the display with its built-in front light—unlike back-lit tablets that shine in your eyes—so you can read comfortably for hours without eyestrain. Adjust your screen’s brightness for great reading in any light.”) also means no glare. Great choice if you’re looking for just reading on it.
Easy. An iPad. You can do more with it.
I have a kobo I really love ❤️
Love my kobo too
I have the Kindle Paperwhite and it was a wonderful investment for me. If you get the leather case that goes with it then it feels just like you are holding a book and it comes on automatically when you open the case and shuts it down when you close it so you don’t have to worry about pushing the button each time and the charge lasts a very long time.
If I have to use an eReader I like my Kindle Paperwhite.
I’ve had an iPad mini, kindle and now the paper white.
Hands down, paperwhite is my fav. Light weight. No glare even at beach or by pool. Also i don’t get distracted by other apps or pop ups. The paperwhite only is for books so nothing but reading. ?
Kindle Paperwhite, hands down. The problem with reading on an iPad or phone is that they are backlit. Reading less than an hour before bed disrupts sleep
Yes, I love that the paperwhite is frontlit for that reason. I have insomnia as it is without backlighting messing me up further.
@Leah me, too
Kindle Voyager. I have over 2,500 books downloaded (many free or very discounted) and Amazon has allowed me to purchase devices for relatives that share my books at no additional charge. I like to read outside as well as in bed at night. No eye strain like iPads and you can adjust size and font of type as well as lighting for dark rooms or bright outdoors. I love that it automatically turns it off and retains your place if you fall asleep while reading. ? Big sale coming up on July 16th but check out different types beforehand. If you are big reader go for best fit that you can afford so you won’t be tempted to upgrade later. I bought 1st one when they first came out and have upgraded several times. Paperwhite is also great. They all still work! I am upgrading to Oasis (if it is on sale) since it is waterproof and has audible book availability. Will give old one to elderly relative that needs big print.
I had a Nook but now it’s all iPad, all the time. iBooks, Kindle, Nook ebooks all on one device.
I love both my kindle white and kindle fire!
Kindle paperwhite
I love my Nook. It was only 49 bucks.
I suggest any kindle that is designated as an e-reader and not a tablet. Prime day is this weekend and if you have prime they will have lots of good deals on them if history repeats. I prefer Kindle because they have the biggest selection of free books. They also play well with library digital content. The screen is excellent for reading without hurting the eyes and great for nighttime with Husband is sleeping and I don’t want to have a light on.
Kindle paperwhite, hands down. July 16 (3PM for us) is Prime Day!!
Kindle and nook
Not really helpful, but I love to read books on my phone via my Library app.

I like Amazon kindle. I have the voyage, which allows me to click on the side to turn the page, as I don’t like swiping.
Now you don’t have to swipe. You just touch the screen and it goes to the next page. I didn’t like swiping either.
@Judy I didn’t know that. The 1st one I had was the kindle keyboard, and I liked the click turn on it so looked for that in my next one. Luckily I love the voyage, even though it is a bit expensive.
@Judy i tried it on my kindle voyage and it works i dont have to swipe to go to the next page ?
I love my Kindle Paperwhite. It lights up, so that I can read at night after my husband has gone to sleep. I don’t need to turn the light on and wake him up.
Ya, I either use my phone or my ipad.
Yeah me too!
I use the Kindle app on my iPad. Also have iBooks, but definitely prefer my Kindle app.
Papperwhite
I love my kindle. I have the most basic one but I am thinking of upgrading to the paper white. I want to see what deal there is on Prime day. I normally get my kindle unlimited then too for the year.
I upgraded from a basic one to a paper white when basic one vanished and am really pleased with it, so nice that it’s backlit.
I have a kindle fire and Paperwhite and I love them both!
I have had the nook, kindle fire, and kindle paper white. The Paperwhite wins by leaps and bounds. Easier on your eyes that the others. You will love being able to adjust the font size and type. The dictionary is wonderful! You can read in the dark or bright sunlight.
Kindle Paperwhite.
I love my kindle paperwhite but I’ve never had anything else so nothing to compare it to.
Kindle Oasis works for me. Holds like a paperback.
I use a Samsung Tablet with the Kindle app. I had a kindle fire but when it died I replaced it with the Samsung and I like it much better
I love my kindle fire.
Kindle fire for books, handsdown. I have a paperwhite too. It’s not as good as my kindle
Paperwhite
Kindle Paperwhite
Kindle paper white
I use the kindle ap on my iPad. I had a kindle. I’m happy with it.
Kindle fire
Kindle paper white. I have two of them.
Since Im not adept really with technology, I have t Samsung Nook from Barnes n Noble. .if i need something, they are always willing to help. Plus if slow at work, essy to hold and read and look busy
Any in the kindle paperwhite series (paperwhite, voyage, oasis) they aren’t backlit so they don’t hurt you’re eyes. Reading only no tablet function so no distractions. Super light and can store thousands of downloaded books
Kindle Voyage. Just like the paperwhite, but bit smaller and sleeker.
KINDLE PAPERWHITE, hands down. I also have an iPad and a Kindle Fire. I hate reading on both of them. The Kindle Paperwhite has a true book feel, no distractions of other apps and media, WAY better battery life, and is safer for eyes because of the type of light it has.
@Autumn, do you have to use the Unlimited Kindle app with the paperwhite?
No, the Kindle Paperwhite isn’t a true tablet. There are no apps on it. It’s solely for books. It runs through your Amazon account and you can shop the Kindle store and use Goodreads from the device.
I love my small kindle — If you keep it on airplane mode and turn the screen off when you are not using it, the battery lasts a really long time. I love mine!
I have the least expensive Kindle there is, and I love it. This is my second one…I had one of the first and then replaced it a couple of years ago. I have some vision problems so being able to adjust the font is essential for me. And, the lighting is perfect. I can also read on my iPad but much prefer the kindle.
I love my kindle paper white
I enjoy using my IBooks on my IPad.
Kindle paper white, or if you want the ability to also listen to audio books, the Kindle Oasis.
I love my kindle paperwhite. If you decide to get an ereader from amazon, I would check out sales on Monday. It’s “Prime Day” and they usually have all versions of the kindle on sale.
I would just get a tablet. That is what i use and it has lasted much longer than a kindle. I also keep the kindle app of my phone and i can switch back and forth and it holds my place
I love kindle paperwhite. I have iPads and Amazon Fire but to read I only use paperwhite. I’m retired and read 3-4 books per week.
I use the Marvin app on an iPad mini. Love it! It’s not good in sunshine, the one place where dedicated e-readers have the edge, and is a bit bigger and heavier than most e-readers, but it’s so flexible in setting up the page colour, fonts, spacing, and it’s so easy to download books and Erb share them.
As expected, people will recommend the Kindle Paperwhite. I can’t personally, because I don’t agree with how they place Digital Restrictions Management on their ebooks.
I have a Nook GlowLight Plus, because I wanted to have full control over my digital library. But, I can’t recommend that either, because frankly, it’s not very good.
If I were to purchase a new ereader, I would probably try a Mobo. But I would also be tempted to just try out an Android tablet. Then I could browse the web, watch Netflix, and other things with it.
