I looked at Nooks today. My boyfriend has a B&N membership so we get coupons for them often. I just don’t know which is the better deal…or if I would like it.
I have notice kindle has had really good deals on the books!! I just got a book for 10.99 when I could have paid 2.99 for the kindle version. Made me a little upset.
I rarely EVER pay more than $4.99 for a book. I put them on my wish list and watch them lots of times they drop to $.99 or FREE eventually. Some I’ve not had to wait long lol I check my list once a week or so.
I have a wishlist too, I check daily. $2.99 is as much as I’ll pay for a book. It took me about a year to purchase every Susanna Kearsley book, there’s about 8 of them, I got them for $1.99 each.
@Teri things like that motivate me to get a kindle. I just spent my Christmas money at B&N only got four books and it was right at $50… I almost cried. I might have shed a tear when I noticed I could have gotten one of those books for $2.99!!!
I’m telling you I researched and compared way back before I got my first ereader. I couldn’t find any Pros for the nook over kindle lol everyone in my family went kindle..even extended family… and we’ve never regretted it.
@Brandi if you have a tablet, you can download Kindle app. You could see if you think you would like reading on a device. I love my Kindle for travel and to get good deals. I do prefer a book most of the time.
@Wendy yes, I get a lot of ARCs and those are even harder with Nook. Sometimes the font is so tiny I can’t read it and the functionality to make the font bigger, doesn’t work on the ARCs.
I found that too. There is still the occasional book I can’t read well on my Paperwhite and have to use my Fire, but overall I’ve had good luck with reading ARC’s on my Kindle Paperwhite. I don’t even try anymore on my Nook.
@Brandi I was worried about that too but I love my nook. Since I mostly read at night I don’t need a book light and I don’t disturb my husband sleeping. Plus It’s very portable and if I forget my book I can pull it up on the nook app. I really prefer it now.
I have a Kindle Voyage currently. I’ve had every type of reader, Nook, Kobo, Sony and various kindle’s I feel like Amazon gives me more access to books, from free to sales and a ton of indie authors who self publish through Amazon. I’ve found quite a few books I never would’ve otherwise thanks to Kindle/Amazon.
It really comes down to preference and personal taste.
I have both a Kindle Paperwhite and a Nook Glowlight, although my Glowlight isn’t working as well anymore. I find the Paperwhite more user friendly and sturdy. Amazon has more book options, including freebies. I also find downloading books to my Kindle much easier when it comes to non-Amazon or non-Nook books and documents. The Glowlight is waterproof though, so if you read in the bath, that might be a consideration. Cover option wise, I think the Kindle has the advantage. As someone who is hard on eReaders, a good cover is necessary for me. I like that the Kindle case has a magnetic clasp that makes the Kindle turn on or sleep just by opening the cover. The battery life of both is really good.
I also have a Kindle Fire and Nook Color (which I don’t think they make anymore). I find my Kindle Fire to be of better quality–sharper images and easier to use. I have the Nook app on my Kindle Fire. I don’t especially like reading books on my Fire or the Nook Color because of the backlighting, but I’d rather use my Fire than read on the Nook.
I have a nook for years now and I download the Kindle app into it. I like both but most of the books I read are in the Kindle version. Agree with @Barbara it is easier to download.
As someone who has both a nook, a kindle AND an iPad (for work) that has the nook and Kindle apps? I say Kindle. While I LOVE supporting an actual book store by using the nook, here’s the reality: B&N is slowly getting out of the “tech” business–and focusing on brick and mortar. They’ll still have the nook, and still have ebooks, but with more and more publishers (especially indie/small pubs) going the Amazon route, I’d say the Kindle is your best bet.
I really loved my nook! The layout and sizing was perfect. However, the ease of getting books on kindle is much simpler, I feel. Especially when checking out from the library. I love my Paperwhite but did have to get used to the interface and the size.
I started with a nook and am on my third which is a nook glow plus. It’s really just for reading but is durable and waterproof up to 3ft of water and best part is no glare so I can read in the sun (down by the water)
Kindle is great for when you run out of physical space or the money to buy physical copies. Its great for on the go as you don’t need to carry half a dozen books a day wherever you go (me in highschool). that is just a few perks that I can think of right now… I am combating the super cold from hades right now… 🙁
I hated my nook- read 1/4 of a book on it and sold it. I’m OBSESSED with my Kindle paperwhite. I like the book prices through amazon, as well as the option for kindle unlimited. Paperwhite is very user friendly. It’s my most prized possession after my kids!
I had Kindle Paperwhite for years and loved it but needed an upgrade as it started getting sluggish. I got the new Kindle Oasis for Christmas and it’s brilliant. Definitely Kindle.
Nook far better as most sites offer free epubs or pdfs. Where kindle have mobi so you always have to convert. Also nook h20 is waterproof and i use everyday and only charge battery about 7- 8 weeks later.
I’m going to say something different lol, partly because I’m in the uk, but Kobo 🙂 I have a kobo ereader which is linked to the kobo app on my phone. I also have the kindle app on my phone x
I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A because I can read both .mobi (Kindle only) and .epub books on it. I get advance readers that aren’t always available in both formats. My Galaxy also enables me to download the apps my library uses for their digital ebooks — which aren’t always available through Kindle. I’ve had Kindle, Fire HD, and Nook and the Galaxy Tab has far exceeded all of them for my reading use.
Kindle Fire: if you have prime, lots of other goodies (movies, TV shows from anywhere). Lots of free or reduced books, other apps, games etc. if interested. Don’t know about Nook
I had a Nook but mine froze a lot! I broke down and switched to a Kindle fire and it’s been good so far. I’m still a traditional book person but digital wise I’ve had better luck with the kindle.
@Brandi I think you should go with a kindle. There are web sites that you can register at and get emails daily with reduced prices and free ebooks. Example of a great one is bookbub. The kindle fire tablet is fairly cheap and you can do other stuff other than read but I pretty much use it only to read. Do you have a library card for your local library? And it’s so easy to use.
I’ve never had a Nook (I hear it can do color) but I’ve never had a complaint about my Kindle. I had my first one for 7+ years and my second for 2+ years now and I’ve never had a problem. I like that they’re light-weight and that I can see them so easily when I’m outside.
Paperwhite! If you get a fire the back light will prob bother you. Also you can read outside with no glare! I prefer the pw because it has the built in light that you can adjust
It depends a lot on where you plan to read. I like the $80 one — I can read so easily outside! But the next version up has a light, so if you need a light on it, you need the next one up. Here’s a comparison of Kindles:
I bought my first Nook years ago and the next 2 I upgraded when they came out with a new one. Love them I can get my books from anywhere unlike the Kindle. I still have my first one just in case I want to carry the smaller one in my purse.
i have a kindle paperwhite- lots of free books, stores thousands (saves space), light weight, backlight, font and font size changes, background color changes, possibility to lend some ebooks
Kindle Paperwhite. I’d like to go higher on the scale, but can’t manage it just now. I also have a Fire. I actually thought I had heard that Nooks were on their way out. Been with Kindle since 2007. Wouldn’t trade them. Nook books can be price matched to Kindle. I don’t think it goes the other way around.
Yes!! Thank you to everyone that responded! It was very helpful. I went to Best Buy last night to get one. I went for the paperwhite but I personally didn’t like how the screen flashed like when you turn a page ? so I got the fire hd tablet. I had my heart set on the paperwhite thanks to you all ?
@Linda they had a deal on the fire HD 8 16gb! You could get two for $100 I got one and so did my boyfriend…I paid $50 for mine! I was very pleased with it.
@Angie I went in thinking I was going to buy the paperwhite. I couldn’t stand the flash thing it did when you turned a page. ( little things like that drive me crazy) I figured it would be best to get some type of table that way if I don’t use it much for reading I can still do other things with it.
I think you can change th setting so it would only refresh the page like that every few pages instead of every page. If it bugged you though, it would probably still bother you then. The fire is still great. There are adjustments you cans make to help see it in the sun (matte screen protectors, brightness and background color adjustments) It’s good for other things to so it’s a win win.
Yes! 🙂 I have both.
I do like my kindle better, though.
I have a Nook, mainly because I mostly shop at B&N and don’t like Amazon.
I looked at Nooks today. My boyfriend has a B&N membership so we get coupons for them often. I just don’t know which is the better deal…or if I would like it.
@Brandi I think you’ll learn to like which ever one you buy.
@Lynn I’m just terrified I’ll regret it and wish I had got the other ?
@Brandi , either way you can still read books on the device. It’s all good.
I absolutely love my kindle!
Kindle! Way more freebies I think. I have a paperwhite and absolutely love it.

@Brandi too late to return?
@Naryamie I already made it home and the store is an hour and a half from where I live. ?
@Brandi if you have a tablet, you can download Kindle app. You could see if you think you would like reading on a device. I love my Kindle for travel and to get good deals. I do prefer a book most of the time.
@Karen I don’t have a tablet ?
I’ve had a nook for about 5 years, love it.
I had a Nook. It was okay, but my Kindle is so much better.
May I ask why you like Kindle better?
@Brandi ease of downloading. With Nook you have two steps, for books/docs not gotten from BN, first to Adobe and then you move them to the Nook.
@Barbara It’s such a pain, isn’t it?
@Wendy same-same!!
New Kindle Oasis…larger screen, waterproof, buttons for scrolling.
Kindle Paperwhite…good price for a great ereader.
I’ve been eyeing the Oasis. I can’t afford it right now, but I’ve been hearing good things about it.
I got mine right Thanksgiving. I absolutely love it. I took advantage of the payment plan on amazon.
Agree I love my oasis
I have the Kindle Paperwhite. I love it for it light weight
I have a Samsung tablet with both apps. I’ve been through few nooks and wasn’t a fan of the kindle.
I love my Kindle. Have one of the first ones and still going strong.
Love my Kindle Paper White!!!!
My kindle fire is 5 years old, use it every day. I also get books from kindle unlimited.
I got a kindle fire 8 for Christmas. It’s good. I’m trying to get used to not having a book in my hands.
Also for everyone else that might listen to audible… they are having a 2 for 1 sale
I’m worried I won’t like not having a real book in my hands!
I am too but I’m giving it a try. I like that I can have so many books on there and not be carrying around twenty books.
@Brandi I was worried about that too but I love my nook. Since I mostly read at night I don’t need a book light and I don’t disturb my husband sleeping. Plus It’s very portable and if I forget my book I can pull it up on the nook app. I really prefer it now.
I’m obsessed with my paperwhite. I won’t read on anything else anymore.
Yessssss I’m a huge Indie author fan!
@Teri me too! Some of my favorite stories are indie
Yes!!!
Love love my Kindle Oasis.
Kindle by far
And if you’re a Prime member, free books
I just got prime! How do you get books?
Ooh yeah, how do you get free books through prime?!
I’d like to know too.
Go on prime and look up your benefits. It’s waaaaaay more than free shipping
I have both. More free books on Kindle, but I like both
It really comes down to preference and personal taste.
I have both a Kindle Paperwhite and a Nook Glowlight, although my Glowlight isn’t working as well anymore. I find the Paperwhite more user friendly and sturdy. I wish you luck whatever you decide!
Thank you!

Love my Kindle!!
Kindle
I love my kindle with whispernet because I don’t need internet to download. A factor here where service is bad
Kindle
I love my oasis.
I really loved my nook! The layout and sizing was perfect. However, the ease of getting books on kindle is much simpler, I feel. Especially when checking out from the library. I love my Paperwhite but did have to get used to the interface and the size.

I love my Kindle Fire but I also love my Nook Simple Touch. Id go with Kindle
100% Kindle!
Vacation with a Kindle vs books is a game changer! I have a Paperwhite and a Kindle Fire.
I can load the Kindle app and read Kindle books on my Nook. Last I knew, the reverse was NOT true.
Love my Kindle Fire but it’s the only one.
Kindle
Kindle is great for when you run out of physical space or the money to buy physical copies. Kindle Paperwhite, it’s the way ahead! This is probably going to upset a few people, but I can’t remember the last time I read an actual book! ?
iPad mini … then download both nook and kindle e-reader software apps so you have the best of both worlds, and can also check email & Facebook.
I had Kindle Paperwhite for years and loved it but needed an upgrade as it started getting sluggish. I got the new Kindle Oasis for Christmas and it’s brilliant. Definitely Kindle.

What’s epub?
Standard file format for ebooks.
I use both
Kindle because it works so well with your public library to check out ebooks free.
I’m going to say something different lol, partly because I’m in the uk, but Kobo 🙂 I have a kobo ereader which is linked to the kobo app on my phone. I also have the kindle app on my phone x
Kindle, lots thing to read from you can put the app on anything
I use the Kindle app on my iPad and love it!
I use a Samsung Galaxy Tab A because I can read both .mobi (Kindle only) and .epub books on it. I get advance readers that aren’t always available in both formats. About my iPad. It’s the best for me because I read on all the apps.
It was extremely frustrating with my Fire Tablet when I tried to get the library apps and they were not in the Amazon App store, so I was out of luck.
Kindle Fire: if you have prime, lots of other goodies (movies, TV shows from anywhere). Lots of free or reduced books, other apps, games etc. if interested. Don’t know about Nook
I was looking at kindle fire. You can get two for $99, so my sister and I could split it. But didn’t know if they were any good
I love mine! I just have a 7″ Fire, more than adequate, the 8″ is more expensive, not really worth the extra unless on sale
You get a lot of free books with Amazon Prime. I have had NOOK and Kindle, and Kindle is way better.
Kindle
Kindle
I had a Nook but mine froze a lot! I broke down and switched to a Kindle fire and it’s been good so far. I’m still a traditional book person but digital wise I’ve had better luck with the kindle.
It’s all about where you want to buy your books. A lot of groups do giveaway days and most of those are amazon books so consider that too.
I have all three main book apps on my iPad and read on them all. ??
I was thinking about getting a tablet so I could have best of all worlds ? but don’t have the money for an iPad right now ?
I have a Kindle Fire, and the kindle Fire tablet. Now I am wanting a kindle paper white for better battery life. Maybe next Christmas I’ll get that.
Right now it’s between kindle fire, paperwhite or nook tablet 7. I didn’t want to spend too much on one.
@Marla yes I do.
If you want it only to read and you read a lot I would recommend the paper white for the battery life.
@Brandi I get most of the ebooks I read through my library and I read 75 books this year all ebooks.
@Marla thank you for your help!!
KINDLE
I’ve never had a Nook (I hear it can do color) but I’ve never had a complaint about my Kindle. I had my first one for 7+ years and my second for 2+ years now and I’ve never had a problem. I like that they’re light-weight and that I can see them so easily when I’m outside.
So it appears kindle is the winner!!! Thank you all for all the info! Now to decide on which kindle! I don’t want to spend too much on one
Paperwhite! If you get a fire the back light will prob bother you. Also you can read outside with no glare! I prefer the pw because it has the built in light that you can adjust
The paperwhite is great for the price. I have been very happy with mine.
The new oasis is my favorite. The payment plan helps a lot.
It depends a lot on where you plan to read. I like the $80 one — I can read so easily outside! But the next version up has a light, so if you need a light on it, you need the next one up. Here’s a comparison of Kindles:

If anyone on this thread knows how to transition to kindle and which kindle is like nook glow light
Love my Kindle Paperwhite! Easy to read inside or out. Reasonably priced. Excellent battery life.
Second.
I have 3 Nooks and LOVE them.
Why 3?
I bought my first Nook years ago and the next 2 I upgraded when they came out with a new one. Love them I can get my books from anywhere unlike the Kindle. I still have my first one just in case I want to carry the smaller one in my purse.
i have a kindle paperwhite- lots of free books, stores thousands (saves space), light weight, backlight, font and font size changes, background color changes, possibility to lend some ebooks
Get a regular tablet and put kindle app on it…you will not be sorry
Kindle Paperwhite. I’d like to go higher on the scale, but can’t manage it just now. I also have a Fire. I actually thought I had heard that Nooks were on their way out. Been with Kindle since 2007. Wouldn’t trade them. Nook books can be price matched to Kindle. I don’t think it goes the other way around.
Love my Kindle Paperwhite
So, did you get enough responses? ?
@Brandi as long as you’re happy with your selection, that’s all that matters. Happy reading in the New Year! ❤
@Lynn thank you ?
@Brandi I love my fire!
@Linda they had a deal on the fire HD 8 16gb! You could get two for $100 I got one and so did my boyfriend…I paid $50 for mine! I was very pleased with it.
@Brandi that is awesome!!! Happy reading!!!
I think you’ll love your Fire!
@Angie I like it so far! Definitely like it for the price! I was worried I would pay 100 or more and not like whatever I got.
I’ve had paperwhites and a voyage and I always sell them and go back to a tablet as my device. lol I like having more options.
Ive both.
I might end up getting a specific ereader depending on how much I use the fire I bought yesterday and if it bothers my eyes
I notice the glowlights at the bottom of my kindle all-new paperwhite n its distracting. However, my Nook is waterproof.
@Tracey I might end up getting a nook too. Depends on what kind of coupons I get for them ?
