I did BOTM once I gave it 3 months, but I didn’t find the choices I was given each month appealing. It was last year, and I never did read the books I received.
I did BOTM and did not enjoy it at all. The choices were books I found no interest in and in fact they are still sitting in my shelf unread. It was not worth it for me.
I really wanted to like it but most of the options I was “meh” about and they only send hard copy – I prefer paperbacks [public transportation!]. If I read a TON and was open to a larger selection, I might consider it but I already don’t get to read as much as I’d like so I prefer to keep my selections more curated 🙂
Hi Anna, I have been a member for a year now and have been, for the most part, happy with the book selections. The nice thing is that you can skip months if you dislike the options or if you are still wanting to catch up on other books. If you are interested, let me know a good email address and I can send you a referral email so you can get a better deal and free tote. 🙂
I tried them twice. It was fun but my issue is how long it takes to receive your books. You can give it a go and if you don’t enjoy you can always cancel.
Been a member for a year and like it – especially the ability to skip months and have them added to your subscription. The quality of the offerings is much better than in the past.
For that that have tried and didn’t like book subscription boxes or are skeptical, is there something you’re specifically looking for? I’ve thought of book of the month, but their books just seem rather dull to me.
Have any of you tried Once Upon A Book Club? They send a book with wrapped gifts matching things in the book that you open as you read. Kinda fun way to make the book come alive.
I did the three month trial when they had a really good sale last Black Friday. It was pretty fun and the sale price included a tote bag and 5 books which was a good bargain but I didn’t really love any of the books. I got You Will Know Me, Lillian Boxfish Takes A Walk (which I didn’t really like), and Dead Letters (which was quite good). They were all sort of fun, quick, light reads but nothing that excited me very much. I might do it again if they have another sale this year but probably not for full price.
I’ve had it for nearly a year now and I’ve loved most of the books. The trick is to be really picky–I skipped for several months when I wasn’t excited about one of the options.
I’m so glad someone asked. I’ve been thinking about joining.
I did BOTM once

Exactly my experience.

No.
As a gift from someone to me, BotM was awesome! To pay for it myself?…. nah.
The library is your best bet!
Tried them 3 times over decades. Never was it worth it.

Send me a pm!
I heard of it but never found the selections appealing. I stick with @Once. I find the book and box more appealing.
It is easier to pick your own books from Book Depository, they have free shipping and low prices. If I use Amazon I can add some tea to the package.
I’ve been a member for 2 years and find it great! The selections have gotten better in the last year & I’ve picked books I’d never thought I’d like!
Yes yes yes

Yes. I get 2 each month. New releases and even cheaper than kindle
I have been on book-of-the month subs on and off for fifty years. I just may join again. Fun!
If you eant to cancel they don’t do refunds
I’ve liked it so far.

I never thought so, not with any of the ones I tried. Then again, I haven’t been a member in 30+ years, so maybe things have changed for the better.
i love it – i have only just started, but i really like it and like the books. i have read things i never would have read before.

I’ll check it out, thanks!
I did a three month trial and skipped two months to find three interesting books. does not beat the library.

I like the selections but the quality of the books is not that great (they seem to have a cheaper paper, I had a couple where the pages ripped easily)
Yes! And you can skip any time you want. This is my latest haul
