I would like to read them I don’t know how many are in the series or which one to read first. [ I just read a comment above] Dead simple is the first I will look in our Library next week. don’t usually have much luck there.
Check on amazon or Goodreads and it tells you the order
Hi @Christina and @Sarah. You simply MUST read them -they are superb. I read my first one some years ago, and ended up taking them as my Specialist Subject on Mastermind. As a result, I have got to know Peter, and can tell you that he is the loveliest man you could hope to meet – and his gorgeous wife Lara is really special too!
Trust me – read one, and you will be hooked! Here is a link to Peter’s website, showing the books in order – they do “stand alone”, but reading in sequence certainly helps in following some of the “back stories”. Enjoy!

Brilliant series. Go for it!
They’re fantastic! ??
I highly recommend them. I believe his 13th novel on Roy Grace is due out this Spring. Peter James does a brilliant job in research which make his novels so much more engaging. Each page comes alive with descriptive. Love all his work
Read the first four and midway through the fifth now. Very enjoyable
Read all of them(nearly) almost finished love you dead, can’t recommend strongly enough
Go for it but do read them in sequence. Peter’s Instagram feed is entertaining too.

Highly recommended, but warn friends and family before you start. There’s the danger of addiction and being oblivious to the outside world. They might be thinking you’re missing.

Totally, absolutely brilliant, but you must read them in order, my wife bought them for my for Christmas a couple of yeasts ago
Yes well worth reading
Oh my word, are you in for a treat!
I am a recent reader of all the Roy Grace books and highly recommend them and agree with previous comments that it is certainly best to start at book 1… the characters in the main grow with each book as does the secondary storyline. Have fun and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
Omg!!!! You will love them he is sooo awesome
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Yes. Fab books and writer
Amazing series. One of my favourite authors of all time and cannot wait for the next one in the series. You’ll enjoy them and a great start to your 2017. Am looking forward to his play coming to Bromley! Happy New Year to everyone. Keep writing Peter, please. Xxx

Loved them. Well worth a read
Read them all and eagerly awaiting the release of the next one… fab author, fab series
Oh wow, thought everyone had read them. You have a treat in store for yourself xx
Great books. Lovely man been to his book signings in Brighton. Love his books
Nearly finished Love You Dead. Have really enjoyed it.?
I have read them all. I live in Brighton. They include a little repetition in case you don’t read them in order. They are good but as the series goes on there is less realism to grace and his life. Also they become more psychological thrillers from the perspective of the perpetrator and more and more dark. Just a warning.
Hi in the comments people mention reading these books in order, can any one tell me please which is the first book I should read just starting out with this new author.
Thank you for your help, happy new year to you all x x
Dead simple ☺?xx
Okay thank you so much.
I can’t wait to find a book store today if one is open, might have to be tomorrow ??
Yes they’re great !!
Love them x
I have read each and every one of them in order – they are all fabulous – I can’t recommend them highly enough – enjoy
Start with Dead Simple. Peter is a great guy and only lives about a mile from me.
Lovely bloke. Met him at London Book Fair and later interviewed him over the phone. True gentleman and books are great. Loved Dead Simple

Oh, am so jealous! To be in the position of never having read the Roy Grace series and about to start book 1. Actually, I think I’ll start reading them all over again! You’ll love them!
Yes yes yes…once you’ve read the 1st one you’ll be hooked.. waiting for the next one this year..
Crack on they’re quite good , is ur surname really Beaver ??!!!!
They are brilliant, you won’t be able to put them down once you start.
A brilliant series.
Love them – one of my favourites
Absolutely gripping from page one, but the early ones the best
They are really good! I have read quite a few of them!
Absolute YES from me. I love them so much, have reread them all.xxxxx
I am going to do that this year ????
Absolutely! I am so jealous – you get to read them from the start.
Start at the beginning of the series if you can, and enjoy.
Yes, big fan of these books and can’t wait for the next one coming out! Make sure you read them in order as the Roy Grace story is intriguing in itself, never mind all the crims he comes up against!!! Enjoy x
I just read Perfect People, which is by Peter James but not part of that series. The writing is nothing to write home about, but the plot was interesting and different and quite thought-provoking.
I kept thinking of the Midwich Cuckoos. Did you?
Debbie Clarke, I read that book also. It was very thought provoking. As for the writing, I really never took notice. The storyline was clever so any form of writing fell by the wayside. ?
I also read this and have John Wyndhams midwhich cukoos is one of my favourite books. Different enough to keep me interested.
Thanks Tracey, Bonnie, David. Oh yes, different enough, but definitely reminded me of TMC. Interesting that his writing improved as he wrote the Roy Grace books – I must investigate. His writing was okay – not bad so it bothered me, but just not as good as some.
He’s no robert Goddard.
Shocked ?
I must investigate Goddard – I haven’t read any. Are they contemporary, and would you recommend which one to start with, @Tracey?
No need to be sorry 🙂
Debbie Clarke hi. They are pretty much all mysteries rather than crime fiction. But almost all are completely different from each other. My favourites are caught in the light, in pale battalions and closed circle.
No need to be sorry. This is a great discussion.
Thank you, @Tracey 🙂 I will put Caught in the Light in my Amazon basket! X
What era are they set in, or all varied? I’ve been looking at them on Amazon and yet to find something definitive.
all different – some historic some contemporary – all different – one or two 2 parters or 3 parters – otherwise all stand alone.
Thank you 🙂 Are any of the ones you mention contemporary? I’m more of a fan of contemporary.
yes
Great – thank you 🙂 x
they are very very good
Yes yes yes do read them!!! I love them all, you need t start early ‘ish in the series to understand the background. However peter james is such an amazing writer that he will refer to past events, so a new reader should be able to pick up the story. Can highly recommend him ?
Love them
Read them all quite addictive x
This is my favourite of all the series!! I anxiously await each new book!
Same here cleo, can’t wait for May and his next book
@Wayne for a while, after the reveal in the last one, I was worried that would be it. Thankfully not ?
@Cleo ,Me too, long may he carry on
Brilliant books read them all
Love his books
They’re brilliant, very well researched, and Peter James is a gentleman, despite what Martin Amis might say! xx
Yes you will enjoy them start with Dead Simple and you will be hooked. X
Absolutely! You are in for a real crime writing treat!
Yes they are brilliant. Make sure you read them in order as part of each book is about Roy Grace’s personal life.
Brilliant!! A must read!
Dead Simple is currently 99p on Amazon for Kindle! After all your positive reviews I just had to add this. Thanks all 🙂 xx
I recently started them and love them, hubby started on them and really enjoying them. Good luck
