was going to get this book I have mixed feeling but everyone seems to enjoy it trouble is I keep getting books that you people have recommend on here I cnt keep up still got loads to read ??
@Helen it was so powerful – utterly broke me the first time I read it. I’ve read it since and even still, when I know what’s coming, it’s still earth-shattering.
Omg I want to punch my husband!!!! Hes watching ot with me (yes I’m being annoying and filling in the gaps that the film has missed out) hes being very “well, if that was my kid ”
The other question is, how come all her other books are nowhere near as good as this one?! Based on this one book I have doggedly read them all except the one about American economics. I still regularly check to see if she has written anything new, even though the writing is pretty much on the wall now! That’s how good this book is.
Is it a true story?! Hubby asked the same question! Well we watched the film (I was in floods of tears at the end) but the film missed out soooooo much. And hubby said it was a shit film…..
I’ve read this book multiple times. It takes a bloody good book to do that. The most disturbing and thought provoking book. Each time I’ve read it I’ve been at a different stage in my life and had a different reaction x
I think I read this first a year or so after it came out in 2003, so about 2005, when my five boys were aged 10 to nought. 14 years later I know where I am on the central premise.
@Elizabeth Read it. I thought the movie was awful. The book is amazing but it is a gut wrenching read too! I can’t tell you why we need to talk about Kevin. It would spoil it for you!
Read it years ago but it has stayed with me. Very disturbing and definitely raises the question of nature versus nurture. I just thought he was pure evil from the beginning.
@Samantha I thought he was evil too. He had traits of a psychopath. I know this opinion divides people. I thought the book was absolutely brilliant. Incredibly disturbing. I was haunted by the images of the little sister and the father.
The end is gut wrenching!
Such a hard read but a great book.

Amazing book!!

@Charlotte I read it before I had children and it haunted me during my first pregnancy!
@Rebecca ?
Ah, so so good. I read it long long ago & the fear still grips me when I think about it!
Powerful book. Have you read Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult????
@Lesley ooh no!
@Helen I think you should!
I’ll look into that now!!!
@Helen it isn’t as good as Kevin, but still good. Maybe leave it a while though?!
@Rebecca I thought Kevin was incredible but 19 really made me respond to the characters. I think because it was a narrative rather than letters.
@Claire do we need this?!
@Vicki oh gosh it sounds like do!
I’m trying to get hubby to read it but he says he wont… is the film any good?
Thought that book was fantastic.
I’m on page 89 and really struggling with it ?
@Tracy after page 100 it. Gets. Interesting….
@Helen ok I will keep going x
@Tracy do persevere as it improves as you go along
My copy was delivered today. Can’t wait to start it.
I struggled to get into it but it was my book club colleagues (before I joined) favourite book ever so I persevered. Absolutely brilliant.
Well just got it on kindle ..well over my 99p budget ?..so trusting you all that I won’t be out of pocket ??
The ending of this book still gives me chills, and it must be over 15yrs since I read it.
@Aline me too I was completely caught out and stunned by it!
I’m now pacing the house like a caged lion… I don’t know what to do with myself!!!! I think we will watch the film later+
@Helen it was so powerful – utterly broke me the first time I read it. I’ve read it since and even still, when I know what’s coming, it’s still earth-shattering.

I’ve read this book multiple times. It takes a bloody good book to do that. The most disturbing and thought provoking book. Each time I’ve read it I’ve been at a different stage in my life and had a different reaction x
When my 7 year old boy is older I will revisit this book and study it closely!!
I think I read this first a year or so after it came out in 2003, so about 2005, when my five boys were aged 10 to nought. 14 years later I know where I am on the central premise.
