@Paula sorry I sound such an angry person, Corrine was the worse! I thought I would feel sorry for her when I read the prequel ‘Garden of Shadows’, all it showed was Corrine didn’t learn from her past & still saw herself as a princess.?
@Leigh she really was, she was so horrible, every time she lied to them, I got more annoyed. *Spoiler* ~ what she did with the wee boy’s body was awful, her own son but her greed was more important?
I didn’t like Elena in ‘Bitten’ by Kelley Armstrong, just something about her, she was kind of slap worthy, I changed my mind reading the second book, ‘Stolen’ & I’ve liked her since then.?
Yip I can’t stand ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, it was only read by a specific English class at the school I attended, so there was this whole elitist thing going on with students who were in the class looking down at students who weren’t, I eventually read the book after I left school & thought to myself “really? What a pretentious brat Holden is”? sorry for going on Janet?
Julia Jarmond from Sarah’s Key. I know that a lot of people love the character, but I reserve an intense hatred for anyone that goes to another country and complains about how the culture and traditions are different than the country they left behind. I also reserve an intense hatred for any woman who is weak and allows herself to be stomped over. Hell, ditch the slap… let’s get a bus and run Julia Jarmond over. *rants. rants. rants*
@Paula She was so whiny and annoying! As much as I don’t like to admit it because of what the book is about, I felt that Julia ruined the book for me. If she remained more focused on finding out who Sarah was and didn’t obsess about herself, I would have found the book more enjoyable. The French edition isn’t any different, either. Julia is still a whiny brat who complains about everything and everyone. Have you read any of the other works by this author? Tatiana de Rosnay does a lot better in ‘The House I Loved’. The main character is very true to her times, and doesn’t whine about it at all. Though, the one thing that I find annoying is that everyone who loves Julia Jarmond hates this book.
The main character from ‘Eat Pray Love’ I couldn’t handle her constant complaining about how her life was so great but not great enough for her, so she had to go on a voyage of discovery which was kind of great but not that great?
@Paula ?? she complains about her big bathroom & I’m like “I don’t have a window in my bathroom” I know it’s not the worse thing in the world but I miss having a window☺️
Everyone in Gone Girl. Husband for being an idiot. Wife for being evil. The patsy guy for being an idiot. Her enabling idiot folks. And the stupid cops for not having a clue. And everyone in the end. Also all the people in charge of making this a movie of all these unlikable, awful people. Sorry, I really loathed this book.
You go Jade! I haven’t read it or seen the movie, I’ve read reviews saying the same as you but you are so much more passionate ~ welcome to the dark side of books?
I agree ~ *spoiler* she wrote a book so she could be forgiven but it didn’t make any difference to Robbie & Cecilia plus she knew what she did was wrong & never told anyone (unless she did & I forgot because it’s been awhile since I read it)☺️?
Harold Lauder from ‘The Stand’ by Stephen King, I felt sorry for Harold to a point but I really wanted to slap the s**t out of him ??
The parents from The Glass Castle!!!!!!
Absolutely!
Yes, so hard.
Daisy from The Great Gatsby!
Lydia Bennet
Yeah Lydia deserves a slap, when she’s being patronising to her sisters & they are thinking “yeah, whatever” (probably)?
Mrs. Norris from Mansfield Park. And Rosamond Vincy from Misdlemarch.
Yes– and Lydia Bennet!
Corinne Dollanganger Foxworth from Flowers in the Attic
Oh I know! “Get a clue hen, you put your weans in an attic & they didn’t have a fabulous time”??
OMG Yes!!!
@Paula sorry I sound such an angry person, Corrine was the worse! I thought I would feel sorry for her when I read the prequel ‘Garden of Shadows’, all it showed was Corrine didn’t learn from her past & still saw herself as a princess.?
All throughout the book she couldn’t figure out why her children were so ungrateful. She was so manipulative!
@Leigh she really was, she was so horrible, every time she lied to them, I got more annoyed. *Spoiler* ~ what she did with the wee boy’s body was awful, her own son but her greed was more important?
Poor Cory. On the bright side I think that’s what drove her insane and got her locked up in the loony bin where she belonged
@Leigh totally?
Alec from The Mortal Instruments. Not realizing how much Magnus Bane liked him.
Augusten’s mum from ‘Running With Scissors’ by Augusten Burroughs?
Both bozo’s from 50 shades
Every time she said ‘inner goddess’…..?
I always thought that Pansy Parkinson should have given Hermione a good whack upside the head, maybe then she’ll chill a little.
As much I love Hermione, she did have to chill a little?
The sicko from Behind Closed Doors
Yes!
I need to read that book?
The chick from Room.
Angel Clare from Tess of the D’urbervilles.
And Bathsheba Everdene!
I agree about Angel Clare, Susan (but he was rather nice eye-candy in the 2008 BBC adaptation! 😉 <3 )
I didn’t like Elena in ‘Bitten’ by Kelley Armstrong, just something about her, she was kind of slap worthy, I changed my mind reading the second book, ‘Stolen’ & I’ve liked her since then.?
Sergeant Troy from “Far from the Madding Crowd
Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye. Ugh – what a phony!
Yip I can’t stand ‘The Catcher in the Rye’, it was only read by a specific English class at the school I attended, so there was this whole elitist thing going on with students who were in the class looking down at students who weren’t, I eventually read the book after I left school & thought to myself “really? No need to apologise Paula. I didn’t have to read it at school either and I couldn’t understand the attraction of it! X

I didn’t care for her either, I found her whiny and annoying

@Tiffany I have The House I Loved but haven’t read it yet. *spoiler alert* no wonder her husband was cheating ?
@Paula Lol. I hated that woman with a passion! She isn’t even real but there are women that are like her. ?
Reading Two by Two (Nicolas Sparks) and want to slap Vivian.
Grace in Behind Closed Doors–so she wouldn’t marry that fool!!
The main character from ‘Eat Pray Love’ I couldn’t handle her constant complaining about how her life was so great but not great enough for her, so she had to go on a voyage of discovery which was kind of great but not that great?
I keep avoiding that book ?
Maybe it wasn’t life affirming to me because I’m always complaining??
Same lol
@Paula ?? she complains about her big bathroom & I’m like “I don’t have a window in my bathroom” I know it’s not the worse thing in the world but I miss having a window☺️
@Paula first world problems, eh ?
@Paula totally, I hate myself a little for moaning about a window x
Thomas Covenant
And Linden! She drove me crazy!
Scarlet O’Hara.
Everyone in Gone Girl. Husband for being an idiot. Wife for being evil. The patsy guy for being an idiot. Her enabling idiot folks. And the stupid cops for not having a clue. And everyone in the end. I agree, also didn’t like this book!
I so agree with this choice, @Jade! Every last one of them needs a slap!
@Kathy the woman sounds awful, so much shenanigans going on?
@Kathy I can’t imagine you slapping anyone hen, well, maybe a book character who deserved it???
Father in the book “The Good Girl” by M. Kubica
Bella from Twilight!
I don’t think I can choose anything better than @Jades’ selection of every last character in Gone Girl!
The female protagonist from something from Tiffany’s
Phury from the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Briony from Atonement.
I agree ~ *spoiler* she wrote a book so she could be forgiven but it didn’t make any difference to Robbie & Cecilia plus she knew what she did was wrong & never told anyone (unless she did & I forgot because it’s been awhile since I read it)☺️?
And James Stevens, the butler in The Remains of the Day!
