Loved it. My book group ended up reading it. Lots of great discussion. Consensus of our group was that she should have gotten more recognition. It did generate a lot of post- book group research about both her and Albert.
Yes, then thought about it for months and months afterward — went on a huge reading spree about Einstein to see what I could confirm and decide what I thought was true about the story. Very thought provoking!
@Julie, have you read The Paris Wife or Cooking for Picasso? Those were some other books that evoked similar reactions from me when I read them and sent me on other giant reading sprees to try to confirm stuff
Library had The Paris Wife on audio… so I’ll start it today. Honestly, my opinion of Hemingway (before I start this) is that he was a horribly misogynistic prick, so I am starting with low expectations ?
ha ha… yes, i started with less knowledge of hemingway so perhaps learned a bit more from this one and a series of others about him, my favorite being: Writer, Sailor, Soldier, Spy. I will probably sound like an uneducated clout by saying this, but I don’t believe I have actually read any of his books — just a whole lot of books about him. Couldn’t decide which one to try first and then got into a million other books. short attention span
We should pick one to plow through just to say we did it… I mean a lot of brilliant folks are jerks, even without war damage-shell shock-ptsd. I feel odd being so opinionated about Hemingway when I’m pretty sure I have only read excerpts and never a whole book. Albert’s Aspberger-ish behavior in The Other Einstein made total sense to me from a 2017 perspective though.
@Jenny, Finishing TPW, slowly. I’m just terribly annoyed at all of Hemingway’s “pals” so I’m not ready to make myself read anything serious like A Farewell to Arms just yet…
I didn’t like it. I wanted more of her life, her contributions, not a contrived story about their courtship, her limp (exactly how many times did the author have to make that point?! I wanted to turn it into a drinking game- take a shot every time it was mentioned. Maybe I would have enjoyed it more. ?
Almost finished. Listening to it on my commute and keep finding myself gasping and yelling. I think i would have gotten frustrated reading it because of the names and language.

A great story. I did enjoy reading the book.

I read it and really liked it. 4 out of 5 (because I didn’t want it to end)
I very much enjoyed it! I know I made audible comments from time to time like “what an ass” and “jerk” though!
I enjoyed it also. Made me sad that she was always in the background.

Ooh, thanks for the suggestions!

ok tell me when you’re done with the paris wife and we can pick one if you still want to…. I’ll have more motivation if someone else does too 🙂
@Jenny SAME HERE!

Yes I recall feeling this way also 🙂
I did. I enjoyed it and believe there is truth in the story
