The beginning of the book is a bit slow. Like you really need a tough will power to drag on. However, at the mid, the story picks off. It’s a good read in my opinion. I was a bit rattled for a couple of days because of the story lol.
I loved it! Heathcliff’s dark and wild character really appealed to me as did the description of the desolation of the moors. The desperation of all its characters really came through! One of my all-time favourites!
The characters are extremely dislikable, but the plot threads are interesting. I wouldn’t consider it a romance, but more of a multigenerational cautionary tale.
Yes, I think we need to cuss out a whole lot of English teachers for portraying it as a “great love story,” when it’s really about obsession and the multi-generational damage done by abuse, among other things.
No. It’s one of my all time favourites. I love the angst, the drama, the simmering tension and passion. Every time I read it, it both drains and revives me. I do appreciate that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But sadly, if you don’t at least rate the book…….we can’t be friends ?
It’s an astonishing novel. It’s one of my all time favourites, but it is a very tough work to read emotionally. It’s really about the dark side of love, or emotional sado-masochism. How a young woman like Emily Brontë, could articulate such complexities is a sign of a really rare talent. If only she’d lived to write more. ?
It’s one of my most re-read favourites, I always find myself thinking the same about EB not living to write more. There is her poetry though, which is sometimes quite dark – I think she captures the essence of the gruff Yorkshire folk and landscape.
l watched the movie on TV with Timothy Dalton as Heathcliff and years later l got my hands on a hard copy of and re-read it again. With much pleasure. twas worth reading again.
I come from West Yorkshire, not far from Haworth where the Brontë sisters grew up, when we were studying this book at school our teacher who was from Surrey, always ignored Joseph’s dialogue. We decided to have a go at reading out his bits – once we read it out loud with our similar accents it all made perfect sense! My favourite bit of Joseph’s dialogue is when he’s having a moan about Cathy and Heathcliff having pulled up the best current bush in the garden, they’ve goan an riven up grandest current bush in ‘garden. Lol
I have not read it, but I would love too.
It’s brilliantly written and worth reading. It’s just really heavy.
Never did finish it, to be honest, but I was 14 last time I tried ?

No,can great read.
I hated it lol
It is a dark story, but I stayed interested and enjoyed it.
Haven’t read it yet
I loved it.
Read it in high school. It is a tough read, her sister’s book, Jane Eyre is better.
???
Even the movie is tough, but it’s a good movie.
It’s so good. Just keep going. It’s worth it. ?
It’s one of my favorite books!

I randomly found a first edition copy of it in a thrift store. Looking forward to reading it.
Are you aware of how much that is worth??
That second half is a killer, but I enjoyed it the second time.

Thinking that’s why I couldn’t get through it. I felt little to no love for the characters.

I’m struggling wit Jane Eyre but it’s not the story it’s the tiniest text ever & Wuthering heights is in the same book!
Congrats I tried and couldn’t do it. Maybe I’ll try again?
Yes, so so sad.
I hate it and I love it.
No.
I loved it, Sat up all night the first time I read it. Couldn’t put it down.
As a story of a violent and untamed passion and revenge, it could only be tough. It’s also overwhelming and unforgetable.
Nope, loved it. My favourite classic.
Yes
It’s my favorite book of all time. It is, however, very dark and brooding, and not everyone’s cup of tea. But I think it’s perfect.

Yes.
It’s a hard read but one of my fave books
Brilliant read, but very dark, which I like.
What I found tough was that not a single character is likable, you feel like you’re stuck in a fevered nightmare, and YET—you cannot stop reading!????
I loved it, it was only Joseph’s barely legible dialect that was difficult to decipher.

My favourite book ever!!!!!!
It is the most hauntingly beautiful love story ever written ?
Wasn’t one of my favorites, that’s for sure.
We read it a year ago at school and absolutely loved it!
I thought it was just terrible. Haha
It was hard to get into and if I hadn’t had to teach it, I probably would not have stuck with it. It does grow on you, though.
I read it and really liked it! I’ve re-read it a couple times since
oh very painful to read, I still can’t deal with it, after all these years, but I also love it,
Hated it. Loved it.
Nope I loved it. Was so easy for me to read.
It’s my 2nd favorite novel, but yes, Victorian English can be a challenge….;-)
#teambronte
I’m going to be noisy and ask what your first favorite is.
Jane Eyre…;-)
Keeping it in the family of authors…haha
Yes, but very good
I loved every moment of it.
Yes I found it a tough read too.
It took a little chewing, but I enjoyed it.
