I try not to read in bed for that reason. Whenever I put my head on my red headrest and I pick up the book I’m reading, my eyes after a few minutes of reading get really heavy and I find myself craving sleep. In that moment, I have to put the book aside lest I fall asleep on it and mash the pages. (That would really put me in a TIZZY upon waking up.)
I’m not reading in bed so that’s not an issue. And it can be any book, even a thriller. I’m having to read a few paragraphs and then divert to something else. So it takes forever. Booooo.
Reading a good book keeps me awake if I read before bed sometimes I look up and it’s getting daylight outside, but it depends on the book. Sometimes if I’m not totally into the book I can read a couple of paragraphs and get sleepy
My eyes often get heavy when I start reading. So I allow myself a short “power” nap, then I feel refreshed and reading is easy. I envy people who can read and read and read without wanting to drift off to sleep. I accept the way I am, and allow sleep to come when it does.
I have the same problem, and find if I sync the audio version with my written version I can keep going for longer stretches. Don’t ask me why, cuz you would think someone reading to me would put me to sleep, but it seems to have the opposite effect. I think it may be that I stay focused more to “keep up” with the reader?
Do you read on a kindle? I had the same problem when reading books, since I switched to kindle paper white I rarely fall asleep reading. I think the lighting on a paper white means less eye strain, therefore eyes don’t get so tired.
Since childhood I read before bed and reading induces sleep naturally now, coffee is my best friend, it helps
Get more sleep. Go to a cafe to read. Drink coffee.
That is a very good signal to take a break.
Then I usually need a break after 2 paragraphs ?
@Jasmine that’s what I’m saying!
@Mick well, at least we’re not alone lol

I CANNOT read in bed, doesn’t matter what time of day or how much sleep I have had. Find a reading spot.
The book you are reading may not be interesting enough?
I’ve been known to pace and read.

Could be a sign you’re either not getting enough sleep or your sleep is not of good quality.

Have your eyes checked.
Get more rest, get a sleep study, have a blood test and your thyroid checked. Make sure your partner isn’t putting arsenic in your tea.
Read when you’re not tired?
Reading is and always has been my bedtime routine. I’d be frustrated if it DIDN’T put me to sleep!

Go to sleep. Take a ?. Reading is restful to your brain. Follow your body’s hint.
Read sitting up. Even on the couch or in bed. It really helps. I have the same problem
