I also found it was disturbing, but the ending made it worthwhile. Not sure if I would have finished it if I hadn’t already read the Maddaddam trilogy.
I don’t mind dark and disturbing, and I love Margaret Atwood. That said, I didn’t care for this book at all. I don’t feel it was up to her usual standards.
I am a big fan of The Handmaid’s Tale but thought this book was just okay. I thought the story had potential and the premise was interesting but I think it fell short and was too simplistic. The blue teddy bear was the final straw for me.
I loved it. I love all of the Margaret Attwood that I have read. That being said, it is very disturbing, and sticks with you.

My bookclub read this a year or two ago. None of us liked the book. It was very disturbing and dark.

I just finished that book a month ago. It was okay and definitely worth reading, it just isn’t as good as you would expect it to be.
Very interesting premise. I didn’t like the characters at all. I thought it was good, just not one of her best.
Interesting premise, but not my favorite.
I really disliked this one.
It felt unfinished.
Not one of her best for sure.
I did not care for it.
Very strange.
I know people love her, but I just have never been able to get into her books.
Same.
Love it.
cant into her books but icna understand them better when they are movies,
Haven’t read that one, but I’ve read many others – love her.
Didn’t like it
Saying you “like” or “don’t” like a book is not really a thought about the book
You are right. I am going to edit my response.
All I can say is I hope it’s better than Hand Maidens Tale. Not a fan.
I found it to be an all-too-real possibility for our future. Atwood is a master of humanizing the unthinkable.
Beautiful! Saw Ms. Atwood at Stratford’s production of Julius Caesar last week! Amazing woman!
