The paperwhite has less glare when reading in the sun. And I love that you can change the font size easily. I’m technologically impaired-LOL. My personal favorite.
I’ve had “newer” Kindles, since the first Kindle they put out. Now I have stuck with the paperwhite since I got my first. I had a couple of lemons, but they were great at replacing them, and I have chosen not to move on to any new Kindles they are putting out. I really love my paperwhite.
I have had 4 different kindles, I like the paperwhite, it is light and easy to hold, adjust to the lighting, can read it in the dark, holds a lot of books. The only down about it, is it has no audio.
I have the kindle fire and I like it but I’ve been thinking about getting a paperwhite because it’s better for reading outdoors and it’s easier on your eyes.
It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want one that’s like a tablet then the fire is great but if you want one that’s just for reading then the paperwhite is better.
I am looking to upgrade from my Kindle to a Kindle Fire. Only because I have to replace my current tablet as well. I have had my Kindle at least 3 years and it is working like new. But really it is what you feel you need and want.
I like to use my phone for anything other than text, because the thing I love about the paper white is how light and thin it is and how long the battery lasts. You can truly throw it in a small purse. But, then you need more than one device. I don’t really use a tablet, though. I do phone, laptop, kindle. Paper white to me replaces a paper book, rather than being another electronic device, I guess.
Paperwhite, no contest. It’s a pleasure to read on, easy on the eyes and comfortable in the hand. The battery lasts a long time between charges, even with Wi-Fi turned on, and it has held up well over 4+ years of daily use. (I also have a Fire, but I don’t like it.)
We have gone through at least 3 kindles over the years and they all eventually stop charging. We switched to the kindle app on the iPad and that works just fine.

I really like my Paperwhite. Tried a friend’s Oasis but didn’t think it was worth the extra $$.

If you want to just read on it the paperwhite is great. No glare in the sun and very easy to use.
Paperwhite.
I have the kindle fire because I use it for work, as well. I really like it, but I wish I had the paperwhite for reading outdoors!
Even indoors, no comparison

I agree w Kim. What you can afford. That being said, I have the Kindle fire because it does more than just read. It replaces an iPad, laptop, etc
I like the fire because I like audiobooks as well

Frustrating that kindle doesn’t come out with one that does it all! Is there a model that has Bluetooth?
The Oasis (latest kindle) has Bluetooth. You can also listen to audiobook with it.
It depends are your needs/wants. Amazon has an easily read page that shows the differences.

I love my 1st gen Kindle Fire, but my mom got a Paperwhite for Christmas, and it’s BETTER. I would totally go for that.
