My library patrons are reporting that it is very obvious which one is writing, and that the transitions between authors are jarring. I think I’ll pass.
Just finished it. I was a little disappointed in it. It was a little slow for me and predictable but I’m not a huge fan of James Patterson and maybe it would have been better for me without his imput.
This is what concerns me. I used to enjoy Patterson but have found his more recent works to be very formulated and uninspiring. I want to read it, but I’m afraid I’ll be disappointed, as well…
Me, I liked it: My Goodreads rating 4 out of 5- This book read mainly as just another good thriller to me. It was fast paced and easy to read, which I credit to Patterson. What made it stand out though, IMO, was the president’s speech to Congress and the Nation at the end, which I credit to Clinton. Inspiring and simple.
I gave up on James Patterson a long time ago — mostly because I don’t think he’s writing most of what his name is on. Since Clinton is not a mystery writer I suspect we’re looking at a book that is just completely ghost written — so not for me. EDITED – although seems like others really enjoyed it so maybe I’ll take a look 🙂
Every author I’ve spoken to says Patterson doesn’t write his stuff. Other people do, and he edits. His name on the book sells. HOW could he churn out as many books as he does?
I’d expect it might be written better from having Clinton in the equation. Whenever I read a Patterson book that I enjoy. I figure it’s the writing of the other person that makes it good.
@Marion A friend read a review of this one (in The New Yorker, maybe?) that said (paraphrased) “one of these people can write, the other one can’t. And Patterson is the one who can’t.” He’s cranking out so many co-written books lately, including children’s books, that the co-writers must be taking most of the load.
@Christi I’m sure they are. BEACH HOUSE was great. I think most of the credit for that goes to Peter de Jong.I guess they see Patterson as the recognizable name and it gets the names of the less established writers out there. then they pursue solo careers. Patterson’s first one or two were okay, but then the quality severely declined.
I wondered when the crazy comments from people who haven’t and will not read it would start. ? I almost bought a signed copy off the Treasure Truck, but they sold out like that. I want to read it, it’s just I have so many other books to read!! One day, I’d love to never have a pile. ?
I wonder if that was what Amazon was trying to pull off as signed? Oh well. I’ll get a copy soon. I’m always looking for book options that are difficult to put down.
YES! Read it. It is a roller coaster thrill ride to the end. And very informative. There is no politics in the book except the last 10 or so pages, parties are not even mentioned.
Yes and I loved it. Whether you liked him as a president or not, the fact is that he is a very good writer who can add the insider details no one else can. It was a real page turner, lots of action and loved the main character. A bit of moralizing and lecturing but I actually liked that as well.
I think I’m going to read it even though I haven’t like Paterson’s work in quite some time. I’m hearing great things about it, and I’m interested in Clinton’s insider spin on things.
Am considering it. Gonna wait for more reviews on the book, not on the people associated with it. Shame on those who are putting their political views on this.
Nope. Political thrillers aren’t my thing. I do need to fill a reading challenge category with a book published this year, but I think I’ll read Victoria Patterson rather than James Patterson. (I’m not joking: Victoria Patterson is the author of “Drift: Stories”, a collection I loved, and she has a new book of short stories due out later this summer.)
I refuse to read anything coauthored by James Patterson. He’s a book factory. This is the first of his coauthored books that I’m aware of where Patterson’s name appears SECOND on the cover, however. I guess being a former president has its privileges. 😉
I finished it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good. It was suspenseful and kept me interested. It centered around cyber terrorism, scary to think something like this could happen.
I tried to read it but the beginning had so much political “speak” that I lost interest. Passing it on to my older brother who likes this kind of dialogue.
Reminder: Comments should be related to books and reading. Disrespectful comments to members will be removed and repeated comments may result in being removed from this group. Thank you.
Yes. Kept me very entertained from Texas to Georgia. Okay, an audiobook and the miles flew by. Maybe not greatest literature but some clear messages for our current climate. Glad I bought it and glad I read it…listened to it.
Jame Patterson isn’t my favorite author, however, he has helped lesser known authors get published and noticed. And, like other books, everyone has the option to buy or not. That is one freedom I take seriously.
i started back at number 1 of the women’s murder club because the plots were pretty good- so i am guessing with the 2 of them- could be a good book by the Prez!
Just finished A Higher Loyalty and Russian Roulette. Both well written, accessible, and informative. Waiting on my library copy of Meacham’s Soul of America.
I read it this weekend and didn’t really like it. I think Patterson has gotten weak over the years. You can see Clinton’s insight which was interesting.
Read it days after it came out. I’m a fan of Patterson Alex Cross series and his mysteries and procedurals. Felt it was definitely written in Patterson’s style and thought it was a good read. My guess is that President Clinton’s input was inside details.
Just reserved it at my library. I’m #94 in line. ? fortunately the library has 21 copies so only five people per book. Still looking at two to three month wait. ?
After all the comments, I had to stop and read it last night. I used to read the Alex Cross mysteries, years ago, but some how stopped and moved on. However, I thought the book was really good. Very interesting and I certainly could see Patterson’s hand in it. Good read! Glad I read it.
Just got it for my husband and then I’ll read it. I liked the old James Patterson books. The new ones are basically outlines plus some filler. I hope this one is good!
I think he gives other authors that aren’t so popular a good chance at getting their names out there. I like 80% of his series but mostly due to the accompanying authors
If you like spy type novels, you may like this. I read it -could have been shorter as it has long technical passages, scary premise, glad I borrowed it from the library.
It should have been a DNF but i was too far in to quit. I thought it was too long, too convoluted and just boring. The President is Missing, well the plot went missing too. ?
I totally need to pick this up next. I have two other books to finish first, then i’ll get into this before the final book of Knightsbridge Trilogy by Ken Follett.
It’s on my bedside table. It will be my end of the year reward after I finish all of the reading challenges I’m doing. I’m a bit of a James Patterson junkie.
I have – I’m not sure it’s really his book. I’m sure he & James Patterson had a ghost writer. It isn’t bad, but it isn’t a MUST READ either. I don’t want to get political, but I liked Clinton as a President, so it isn’t political bias that affects my opinion of his book.
In addition to being a James Patterson junkie, I collect Presidential Memorabilia. I thought a book “written” by a former president would be a fun thing for me.
I’m reading it now. I find myself being aware of which chapters/ ideas are from Clinton and which are from Patterson, which is a little distracting. But the story pulled me in. I wonder when the movie will come out.
I originally had it on reserve at the library; then I thought about getting it on audible since I haven’t read any previous James Patterson books, but I wasn’t impressed with the sample audio. After all the various comments here, I think I may put my name back on the reserve list at the library.
I wondered the same thing. Every one of Patterson’s co-written books has been a disappointment to me. I’m very curious about this one.
I agree. His name alone, I will enjoy. With a co-author, nope.
One of my friends just finished it and she said its very good!
On the list at my local library!
Loved it!! I couldn’t put it down. Finished it in 2 days!!!
My library patrons are reporting that it is very obvious which one is writing, and that the transitions between authors are jarring. I think I’ll pass.
I did not notice that at all. In fact I kept wonder who did what.
I think I can tell and that’s what makes it interesting for me
I loved it!
I bought it for my husband for Fathers Day. I’ll read it when he’s done
I own the ebook but haven’t read it yet. It might make a better audiobook, depending on the reader.
Audio was read by Dennis Quaid and others. Was pretty good.
Just picked it up from the library, excited to start it. Though I do agree, most of his cowritten books aren’t the best Patterson has released.
I’m not a big Patterson fan, but this was well written and fast moving
It is a good story and I liked it.
So far the posts haven’t been political and have been respectful and civil which I have very much appreciated!
Yes, I was just trying to figure out if I could find a “don’t be snarky” emoji. We ain’t got time for that in THIS group!?❤️?
@Glenda Yep. Some people just can’t help themselves.
Just got it in the mail and haven’t started yet because I’m finishing up another book.
I am 85% through it and it is fast paced and very enjoyable.
I heard it was good!
Yes, it was a great and scary story!
Not yet, I’m on hold at the library!
Yes, a good book.
I found it scary, believable, and so real I stayed up until midnight reading it.
I’m 60 pages in! Jo Ellen
It’s in my book pile for the summer…so not yet…
Not yet. I did hear it’s good.
Just picked it up at the library yesterday. Starting next. Looking forward to it.
I will once I can get it for cheap – I have a knee-high stack already 😉
I am waiting for it to arrive via interlibrary loan.
No, but it’s on my library requests.
Just started it. So far it is good!
It’s on my tbr list. I enjoy James Patterson’s books.
Just bought it but not started, think it will be good ?
Just finished it. I was a little disappointed in it. It was a little slow for me and predictable but I’m not a huge fan of James Patterson and maybe it would have been better for me without his imput.
This is what concerns me. I used to enjoy Patterson but have found his more recent works to be very formulated and uninspiring. I want to read it, but I’m afraid I’ll be disappointed, as well…
I think that happens with a lot of authors when you read them consistently. You get to know their style and can often predict the story.
@Julie good point! I hadn’t really thought of that
I just bought it this weekend but choose to start Lincoln’s Last Trial first
Yes! I loved it, and devoured it in a weeks time!
Very good read! Enjoyed it to the end.
Not on my list.
I haven’t read this book yet, however I have it on my wish list.
Agree!
I’m not a big fan of either, but the book was a wild ride!

And Patterson is the one who can’t.” He’s cranking out so many co-written books lately, including children’s books, that the co-writers must be taking most of the load.
@Kari I know someone who wrote one for him.
It’s on my list! Looks good.
Reading it now.
Yes I have. It’s ok….
Reading it now. Enjoying it so far.
I wondered when the crazy comments from people who haven’t and will not read it would start. ? I almost bought a signed copy off the Treasure Truck, but they sold out like that. I want to read it, it’s just I have so many other books to read!! One day, I’d love to never have a pile. ?
I bought the hard back at Walmart. When I got home I took the book jacket off and men’s signatures are embossed on the front cover.
I wonder if that was what Amazon was trying to pull off as signed? Oh well. I’ll get a copy soon. I’m always looking for book options that are difficult to put down.
Liked!! Gave it 4 stars..interesting and current !
YES! Read it. It is a roller coaster thrill ride to the end. And very informative. There is no politics in the book except the last 10 or so pages, parties are not even mentioned.
Good to know!
Not a fan of James Patterson at all, but this one is one my hold list at the library because the synopsis interested me. We shall see!
Just picked it up
Reading it now and liking it so far. I read an interesting passage to my husband this morning that describes our government and the media coverage.
Yes that was very thought provoking. Tired of journalists pulling our strings
@Kit Exactly!
I don’t usually read Patterson but I’m curious. Is Clinton reading the audio book?
I haven’t found an audiobook yet. Let me know if you find one
It’s read by Dennis Quaid, with others
@Catherine thanks
????
@Catherine how was it? A good listen?
I haven’t listened to it, I was just responding to the comment about who narrates it
My husband said it was just ok.
Yes and I loved it. Whether you liked him as a president or not, the fact is that he is a very good writer who can add the insider details no one else can. It was a real page turner, lots of action and loved the main character. A bit of moralizing and lecturing but I actually liked that as well.
Yes, and I liked it!
I also was little sceptical, but after reading the comments that it was not that political I will probably give it a try.
It’s only political towards the end…!
Reading
What do you think so far?
I like it!
nope no way
It is a really good mystery and gives you something to consider about our technology.
Not yet but I plan on reading it
Reading it now
Just finished.
Yes – Loved it but the idea of it really scared me!!
Like it!! Forget political views! Finally Patterson is writing his own book!
My bf’s copy just arrived this morning! I’m hoping he likes it!
No, but it is on my list.
I don’t have it added to my list but more than likely will read it at some point.
Not yet, but I will!
Purchased a copy at Target to read on my beach trip next week.
Reading now
I’m not a James Patterson fan so probably won’t read it
Ditto!!
I would have, but I went to the library, and the book is missing . . . ?
I plan to read it. I haven’t purchased it yet.
It was much better than I expected. I didn’t care for the ending. Seemed a bit preachy to me. But the story to that point was engaging and very good.
NO☹️
I got the audio book and listening to it a little each day. I love mysteries thrillers and political stuff
It’s JAMES Patterson w Clinton!!!
I got a free sample!
On my audiobook wishlist
Not a great reading of it!
I have not read it and am not a fan of Clinton but I am a fan of Patterson. So I might read it.
I want to!
Not yet…but, planning to read.
Reading it now and really enjoying it!
I tried to listen to it…had to stop. I was not impressed!
I think I’m going to read it even though I haven’t like Paterson’s work in quite some time. I’m hearing great things about it, and I’m interested in Clinton’s insider spin on things.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed-I felt the same regarding Patterson but that insider spin made for a great read
That’s why I’m interested, too. His interview on npr got me interested.
I am planning to read it.
@Cara, want to chime in?
I did!
Did he write it? Or did his ghostwriter…
Co-wrote with James Patterson.
Collaboration with James Patterson.
OK…then written by James Patterson…
Or Patterson’s ghostwriter.
I’m a little intrigued by it. I’ve never read James Patterson either, though I’m told I would like it.
What is it called?
The President is Missing
@Patty is it a good one? Potilical topic?
Quick fun reas
Read
I got it but don’t like it. First James Patterson I’ve ever disliked. Too political
Didn’t find it political except for the end.
On my tbr
I had no idea. I might give it a try. I think of Patterson as junk food for the brain lol
Did not like it, did not finish, unusual for me to not finish a book
It got a good review from a friend.
Just bought it and about to start.
not yet
I’m not a big fan of as Patterson’s books, so probably not.
I’m intrigued by the story. I’ve only read a few Patterson books, but I enjoyed them. It’s on my tbr list.
Loved it
I am reading it now. Just started on around page 50.
Bought it. Not yet read,.
Not likely. Not a Patterson fan
My husband is reading it now and is enjoying it!
No, but I am checking it out of the library tonight.
Not a Patterson fan and definitely not a fan of any Clinton. No interest in reading this.
Will not read.??
Reserved a copy at the library
Started, found boring, manipulative and badly written. Gave up after 30 pp.
Won’t read. Sorry I don’t like Patterson. I don’t want to offend anyone. I just don’t like that style of writing.
That’s fine. We all don’t like the same authors or styles.
No
Haven’t n n o?
Just got it today
In process
On my list!
Just ordered it..heard it was a good one
Am considering it. Gonna wait for more reviews on the book, not on the people associated with it. Shame on those who are putting their political views on this.
My grandmother was a Fortier from NO.
I’m sorry but where or what is NO.
@Debbie I am thinking NO means New Orleans. There is a Fortier Parrish in Louisiana which is like a county I believe.
Oh, ok thanks
It is on my summer list…
I really thought this was a yes/no question. Silly rabbit?
Not yet
No, and I never will.
No, but nonfiction doesn’t really float my boat.
It’s not nonfiction; it’s a thriller co-authored with James Patterson.
Oh. Well then that’s different. I just may have to give that a read. Thx for the heads up. 🙂
Have it can’t wait to read it!!
Just about to start
It s quite a good thriller
No. I’ve always thought Patterson was a hack. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.
I’m on the waiting list for it at my library, there’s something like 500 people in front of me so it will be a while.
Me 2!
Sorry- meant political
me too… it looks good.
Haven’t read any Patterson books yet but have been considering this one. A future TBR
Just OK not a fan of Patterson
I had it in my hand today but put it back down. I may get it later
Thank you, Kit! Agreed!
I refuse to read anything coauthored by James Patterson. He’s a book factory. This is the first of his coauthored books that I’m aware of where Patterson’s name appears SECOND on the cover, however. I guess being a former president has its privileges. 😉
No. Not yet.
It’s a good beach read, no matter who wrote it.
Not yet, but I am very curious.
Just started it!
Im half way through. I may not finish. Its pretty silly so i expect the movie next summer.
When Patterson writes by himself, he is still pretty good
On the list at the library
Not a big fan of James Patterson.
I finished it yesterday. I thought it was pretty good. It was suspenseful and kept me interested. It centered around cyber terrorism, scary to think something like this could happen.
I have it on hold right now.
I tried to read it but the beginning had so much political “speak” that I lost interest. Passing it on to my older brother who likes this kind of dialogue.
Reminder: Comments should be related to books and reading. Disrespectful comments to members will be removed and repeated comments may result in being removed from this group. Thank you.
Not a fan of Clinton. Won’t read
Me either, which is exactly why I am going to read it. Everyone deserves to be heard.
It is “okay”.
I’m about 1/3 of the way through and am enjoying it.
Bought but not read yet
Yes. I liked it.
Heard interview with both Pres. Clinton and Mr. Patterson. I want to read it but not high on my list.
No….but love the title ?
I said the same.
I just bought it for my Dad for Father’s Day.
It was a good story, well told. I enjoyed it.
Probably will eventually…
Just started it
Yes. Kept me very entertained from Texas to Georgia. Okay, an audiobook and the miles flew by. Maybe not greatest literature but some clear messages for our current climate. Glad I bought it and glad I read it…listened to it.
is that the one he wrote with @Patterson
Patterson is barely literate.
I haven’t read it yet. A coworker told me it’s really slow at the beginning. But it is super good once it picks up.
I agree. I’m on page 187 and the plot is just starting to unfold. Enjoying it so far though.
On the library waiting list.
Not a big fan of clinton
It arrives Friday to my door!
I just seen it in my store. I think I might read. Interesting what they will come up with
I saw an interview of both Patterson and Clinton about the book, can’t wait to read it!
I have it on my list
No but I saw on sale today at Wally World.
Huh???
Really? Clinton’s book at WM???
@Patti Wally World is slang for Walmart
@Kathi Thanks 🙂
@Kathi right. Selling a Clinton book? Thats surprising.
I need to get it
I’m working on Madeleine Albright’s book.
How are you liking her book?
Looks scary fascinating!
She’s tough! And she’s been on the inner workings of the WH and State Department.
I like her sharp and clear thinking!
https://books.google.com/books/about/Fascism_A_Warning.html?id=GKMrDwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button
I like her very much. She is also an immigrant……. her first book tells about her life and is very interesting.
Eileen Rybeck…I totally agree with you…Patterson is just a book factory now…no respect for him as an author any longer!
I have it but haven’t read it yet looking forward to it
Jame Patterson isn’t my favorite author, however, he has helped lesser known authors get published and noticed. And, like other books, everyone has the option to buy or not. That is one freedom I take seriously.
REad it, could tell you exactly which sections were written by which author. Lots of politics.
That’s odd. Almost everyone has said the opposite.
Wow, I’m surprised.
@Cjn well I guess what’s a lot of politics to one reader isn’t enough for others! Everything is subjective, really, right? LOL
i started back at number 1 of the women’s murder club because the plots were pretty good- so i am guessing with the 2 of them- could be a good book by the Prez!
I’m on the waiting list at my library. I read a short except and it looks good.
I’m on hold with my library.
Not yet, but it’s on my list.
Just finished A Higher Loyalty and Russian Roulette. Both well written, accessible, and informative. Waiting on my library copy of Meacham’s Soul of America.
Finished Higher Authority and started War in Peace. Both have great insights. Also have Meachum’s to read. Not enough hours!!!
@Sherry agreed!
@Sherry Meachum’s book is well worth it!!
Just finished it – fun read!
Reading it now
Reading it now – it’s ok but not fantastic
Reading now…good
Not yet, but it is in my TBR pile for this summer.
I just can’t read it right now. All those politicians are exhausting.
There are some interesting insights into the impeachment process from the main protagonist President Duncan. But the book is distressingly topical.
I read it and I loved it.
Starting it in a few minutes.
Let us know what you think!
Reading it now. Enjoying it!
On chapter 9, so far so good. ? Can’t wait to find out what the President is doing!
On hold with my library
Me too
I read it this weekend and didn’t really like it.
In an interview I saw them do they said the same: that he provided the kind of insight and details that only a president would be able to.
no thanks
I plan to but haven’t yet.
I have. Thought it was well done.
Not yet but I plan to
I read it last week and enjoyed it! I couldn’t put it down!
Reading it right now!
Not yet. Everybody I talk to says it’s very good, so it’s on my list.
Just reserved it at my library. I’m #94 in line. ? fortunately the library has 21 copies so only five people per book. Still looking at two to three month wait. ?
I’m #7 at our library. The joys of small town living.
After all the comments, I had to stop and read it last night. I used to read the Alex Cross mysteries, years ago, but some how stopped and moved on. However, I thought the book was really good. Very interesting and I certainly could see Patterson’s hand in it. Good read! Glad I read it.
Not a chance
On my bookpile…
Have it, giving it to Hubby for his birthday, then reading it. Huge Patterson fan.
Sorry to say I honestly don’t think I need to read this book, this is actually TRUE ?
I was literally just looking at it on Audible
I have this book in my request list from the public library.
Haven’t started but heard it’s great
On chapter 34 and pretty riveting!
I just finished and my thought is “meh,” not bad…not good. It’s not a re-reader so I’ll be donating it to our local used book store.
Reading it now. Slow start. Now can’t put it down
It got terrible reviews.
It’s at 3.99 on Goodreads. So mostly four star good reviews. Where are you looking?
I’ve seen it mentioned a lot, and folks are raving about it.
Listening to it now…I find the characters’ foreign accents extremely distracting. Wondering if maybe it’s better to read it?
If you like spy type novels, you may like this. I read it -could have been shorter as it has long technical passages, scary premise, glad I borrowed it from the library.
It should have been a DNF but i was too far in to quit. I thought it was too long, too convoluted and just boring. The President is Missing, well the plot went missing too. ?
First part was good but maybe I’ve read too many.
@Sherry I agree, the opening was good. Then Saturday happened. ☺️
The last few pages made me crazy…they added nothing to the book and simply felt like 42 jumped up on his soapbox
I actually lived the speech at the end! I thought it was inspiring
@Kit I do agree. So different from what we hear daily.
It was only a few. Rest was great!!
Thought it was better than alot of Patterson’s.
Not yet but planning to!
Actually a collaboration with James Patterson.
Someone let me read it ….after a couple of days I gave it back A book has to pull me in …in the beginning.
Just finished in early am…took me less than a week amidst working. Fantastic thriller/read and great message at the end.
I totally need to pick this up next. I have two other books to finish first, then i’ll get into this before the final book of Knightsbridge Trilogy by Ken Follett.
I thought it was a decent read. It’s typical Patterson. Very timely.
It’s on my bedside table. It will be my end of the year reward after I finish all of the reading challenges I’m doing. I’m a bit of a James Patterson junkie.
Boring!
Juar finished…it was fun!
I’m reading it now. I find myself being aware of which chapters/ ideas are from Clinton and which are from Patterson, which is a little distracting. But the story pulled me in. I wonder when the movie will come out.
Interesting observation! Never would have thought of that
Just finished it and it is a fun read.
No thanks.
Not even close to an interesting read. Very boring imo
I have it next on my list.
I originally had it on reserve at the library; then I thought about getting it on audible since I haven’t read any previous James Patterson books, but I wasn’t impressed with the sample audio. After all the various comments here, I think I may put my name back on the reserve list at the library.
The audible was rough- it was Quaid, who is sometimes right on and sometimes a bit too “scruffy.” I enjoyed it tho!!!
Very readable!
It was a good, easy read, if a little preachy at the end. But I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I read the first chapter, the narration was great. The narration sucked me in.
Drags on and on.
I read it and I thought it was pretty boring.
