Not specifically Hallifax, but The Birth House by Ami McKay takes place in an isolated village in Nova Scotia, and it does talk about the Hallifax Explosion. It’s a really good book.
Not exactly Halifax, but I read No Great Mischief by Alastair MacLeod a few years ago, and it was awful. One of the worst novels I’ve ever read. So, not a recommendation, but a sincere warning!

not Halifax, but wonderful. The Glace Bay Miners’ Museum: The Novel
by Sheldon Currie.
You got me curious about the general question of finding books set in particular places. Goodreads has such lists. The one for Halifax is at: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1607-halifax-nova-scotia
Thank you! I like to read novels about places I visit.
Not a book, but Maudie sure is a good movie, set near Digby.
There is a book about Maud Lewis…The Heart on The Door by Lance Woolaver. Good read!
So, this isn’t about Halifax but it is a collection of short stories set in Cape Breton. I loved it.

Lesley Crewe’s Shoot Me is set in Halifax. It’s a fun read.
She’s written a few other books based in and around Cape Breton (Kin, Relative Happiness, Ava Comes Home) and has mentioned Halifax in them as well.
I love Halifax and Cape Breton
