I go to @Mythcon every year. It’s a small, friendly, fantasy literature conference that changes location (Atlanta in 2018), and combines panels and papers on Tolkien/myth/fantasy literature with fun discussions and social activities. Well worth checking out. Here is the link for the Mythopoeic Society web site for lots more information: http://www.mythsoc.org/
Only “con” Ive ever been to was a small local thing in a hotel before they were call cons. Early 80s? Sci fi. A friend and I liked Star Trek a lot and I read a lot of sci gi and fantasy. Didnt take long to realize we were way out of our league. Bookcon sounds like a broader audience so maybe that would be better.
There’s a National Book Festival in DC every year. There are over 100 book authors and presenters in attendance from a variety of genres, including writers of children’s lit, poetry, biographies, thrillers, YA, fantasy, graphic novels, and fiction. Festival activities mostly consist of book signings and author lectures. This year it’s on Saturday, September 2nd. Here’s the link to the website: https://www.loc.gov/bookfest/
We are having more and more bookish events lately in the Toronto area (Ontario, Canada), so many that I told my husband last night that he won’t be seeing me much in September or October LOL :). One that I absolutely love is called Word on the Street. It is to celebrate and promote Canadian authors, and it is a free event. It takes place along the Toronto waterfront, and there are so many authors speaking throughout the day that my friend and I are exhausted by the time the day is done. We actually take bags on wheels because we usually go home with at least a dozen autographed books. It is such an amazing day!! https://thewordonthestreet.ca/toronto/
There is also a 2 week event in Toronto in October called the International Festival of Authors which features authors from all over the world in evening speaking events. This one you have to buy tickets for, but I have seen some amazing authors there like Emma Donoghue and Deborah Harkness. http://ifoa.org/

Oh my goodness, that’s not long off! Is anyone planning to go? It’s just a quick train ride away for me…
I’ve been to the National Book Festival – it is wonderful!
And there’s Book TV!
@Mycala I live in the area, so I will probably stop by in the morning.
Hmm, well let me see what I can do! 🙂
We have Decatur Book Festival in Decatur, GA. Outside Atlanta. Lots to buy, panels, meet the author. Good stuff!
