Right! And as for BookOutlet, I’ve found brand new books for .59, I’ve never spent more than 5 bucks on a book from either of these sites. I love them, they get me into trouble. ?
I was debating about it for awhile but my neighbor almost exclusively uses ThriftBooks. I finally tried it and I ordered everything “very good condition”. They came and were fabulous. Since they are used books, there were some minor imperfections but overall quality was outstanding. That was about 1-2 months ago and I haven’t stopped ordering since.
Cons:
Shipping must be coming from the North Pole or some remote town in Alaska where there’s one postman and he only works on Tuesdays. So patience will definitely be a virtue but well worth it for the price.
It will most certainly add up super fast when books are like 3-4 dollars! But I can spend the same at Barnes and Nobles and get only Like 2 books compared to 5-6 books.
@Robin, I live in Chicago too and it says they always ship from Aurora, IL!! It takes them so long to get to me IF they actually send me the right order or arrive.
I’ve only ordered once. I purchased three books that would’ve been around $40 new. I paid $18 for the three. And yes shipping is super slow. They were all pretty decent condition.
They’re amazing! The customer service is on point as well, they’ve always been willing to fix whatever issue I’ve had (because mistakes do happen, it’s life. I’ve also messed up and double ordered and they fixed it right away).
I pretty much exclusively use them these days 😮 lots of rewards-type things too, so I’m always getting free shipping and $5 off and stuff… can’t beat 6-7 books for $20 🙂
@Camille Then you’ll love them they’re great — and the books are so cheap. Even though I love Barnes & Noble every time I’m there and want a book I always find myself thinking “I wonder how much this is in ThriftBooks?” ?
They’ve been my go-to used book site lately too. I like that they give you a free book for a certain amount of points you accrue. I find their selection to be pretty good, although they’re usually about $0.10 more expensive than Abebooks.
This is my last time using them-while they’re cheap, they’ve had to refund me FIVE times now for either sending me a completely wrong order OR I haven’t gotten my order at all. This time, I got one book out of an order with 3 books. I use them monthly.
I emailed customer service and she just sent me tracking info which has said “in transit” and it literally hasn’t moved at all in five days. And I emailed them again yesterday and I haven’t heard back yet when they’re normally super fast. So now, I’m done
??super customer service. I have had one issue over a lost shipment and they were great. No questions asked, order was quickly replaced. Recommend them highly.
I don’t like Thriftbooksc. It’s hit or miss. They overrate the condition of their books. I have been very disappointed with many of my purchases. The last time I ordered from them, I ordered 3 books, and I received shipping confirmations for all three. They sent me 1 book per my order which was a new book. One book by Stephen King wasn’t sent; instead, I was sent a romance book by an author also named King though she has a different first name! I just put it on my to be passed on pile. The third book was never sent!
They have great customer service. I’ve not bought from them directly, but through eBay and Amazon. Anytime I’ve received a book that wasn’t in condition described, they’ve promptly refunded me.
Thriftbooks is addicting lol and if they ever do show up damaged, they replace them asap. And I can’t tell you how many autographed books I have ended up getting without even knowing. Lol last one I got was by Rainbow Rowell. I thought it was a fake so I asked her and she said it was her signature. I nearly had a heart attack. Lol
I love it. Last year I was adding some books to the series my husband was reading. I goofed and ordered some he already had, and they goofed and sent me a few multiples, so I had 3 or 4 of some. I wrote them and told them…they refunded me for EVERYTHING and said I could keep the books and do as I wanted with them. I just placed an order for 2 brand new books. One was released a couple weeks ago. I think I got a great price. I don’t think you can go wrong with this place.
I have bought close to 200 used books through them. Never had an issue save for once, I was immediately refunded, told I could keep my entire order so I donated them to one of my town’s little libraries.
I ordered from Thriftbooks three times and received all packages in a timely manner. Even the books that were in acceptable condition looked good. I was very satisfied and will order from them again.
I’ve tried to use it a few times, but they never have the books I’m looking for. It looks like a really good site though. I still have questions about the s & h tho.
THANK YOU EVERYONE !!!! I made my first Thiftbooks purchase last night. My husband might stroke out by the number of books coming soon (maybe not that soon according to the snail mail reviews) ???but its my Christmas gift to myself ???
they put pricing and bar code stickers on the spine and back of every book they sell that can be very difficult to remove. there are some booksellers that either dont use any stickers or use glue thats easy to remove. thrift books is not one of them. as a collector nothing burns my ass more than stickers that are hard to remove. some books come with the less glossy and more paper-like dust jackets and these stickers are impossible to remove from those without damaging the dust jacket. otherwise thrift books is a decent place with decent prices. i prefer book depository because they have free shipping all over the world.
i have a method (scotty peeler and goo gone) but stickers of the more papery covers really cause issues when they use strong glue. heat maybe helps some but it seems the longer the sticker is on the book the harder it is to remove.
LOVE Thriftbooks! They don’t always have what I need, but when they do I save big bucks on my library budget and the YAs are almost always in great condition. Only returned one, and TB gave me a replacement for free.
I use them all the time and have never had any problems with them. I think you get what you pay for. They have different levels of used you can purchase. I would say if you want a book in excellent condition you should buy it new.
I LOVE ThriftBooks!! Them and BookOutlet are my main fix for books.
I was looking through there selection and it’s wayyyy more affordable for someone that loves reading. You can’t beat the price ….
Right! And as for BookOutlet, I’ve found brand new books for .59, I’ve never spent more than 5 bucks on a book from either of these sites. I love them, they get me into trouble. ?

Ok thnx
Yah I’ve taken the first step of putting the books I want in the shopping cart and I’m up to 20 so far ??♀️
It will most certainly add up super fast when books are like 3-4 dollars! But I can spend the same at Barnes and Nobles and get only
Like 2 books compared to 5-6 books.
Where do you live? My books always come pretty quickly, lol.
@Cherie Chicago! Lol. It took both orders about a week and a half. Lol.
@Robin, I live in Chicago too and it says they always ship from Aurora, IL!! It takes them so long to get to me IF they actually send me the right order or arrive.
Robin I live in Berlin, WI. Usually takes about a week to get to me. Most of mine seem to ship from Pennsylvania, lol.
Love it!
I’ve used them a lot in the past never had any issues.
I’ve only ordered once. I purchased three books that would’ve been around $40 new. I paid $18 for the three. And yes shipping is super slow. They were all pretty decent condition.
Love it , great customer service as well !
They’re amazing! The customer service is on point as well, they’ve always been willing to fix whatever issue I’ve had (because mistakes do happen, it’s life. I’ve also messed up and double ordered and they fixed it right away).
Good but I use alibris too
Never heard of it thnx
Never had any problems
I pretty much exclusively use them these days 😮 lots of rewards-type things too, so I’m always getting free shipping and $5 off and stuff… can’t beat 6-7 books for $20 🙂
U sure can’t beat the price
Yep! They’re usually in pretty good condition too 🙂 Or spending like 20 extra cents to make sure they’re in good condition is nice
@Cory I just got 5 for $16!
@Christine Woot woot! 🙂
Very happy with them!! The books I ordered look brand new!
Use them weekly
If you don’t mind used books it’s amazing!
Don’t mind at all
@Camille Then you’ll love them they’re great — and the books are so cheap. Even though I love Barnes & Noble every time I’m there and want a book I always find myself thinking “I wonder how much this is in ThriftBooks?” ?
@Simone I went to a used book store and the price difference was $1-$2 from a new book…. it was ridiculous!!!! So i wanted to try a different option.
LOVE THEM SOOOO MUCH!
Great selection and awesome customer service.
I personally like Better World Books better. They have much more of a selection. I can’t ever find books I want on Thriftbooks
Never heard of them … I’ll look them up thnx
They’re on plenty of used sites, such as Abebooks and Alibris. Pay attention to shipping costs with these other sites.
Better World Books has free shipping. Even free international shipping. I love it.
@Jean True, although I’m not a fan of the fees they tack on. Thriftbooks gives free shipping on orders over $10.
@Andy Better World Books has free shipping on orders of any amount.
It is the only site I buy from
They’ve been my go-to used book site lately too. I like that they give you a free book for a certain amount of points you accrue. I find their selection to be pretty good, although they’re usually about $0.10 more expensive than Abebooks.
love it and paperback swap http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php
I think the best website I’ve ever used for new and used books is http://www.abebooks.com/
Thriftbooks rules!
I love it, only had an issue once in the past couple years i have been using them and they fixed it right away.
Excellent! Fast delivery. I order from them alot.

Traci Rose-we were just talking about this!! ?
Ive ordered and loved!

??super customer service. I have had one issue over a lost shipment and they were great. No questions asked, order was quickly replaced. Recommend them highly.
Love love love them!
Just got books from them in the mail ?
I love thiftbooks for my books. No complains.

Love them, never an issue
I’ve had some issues but they’ve resolved them. ?♀️ Hasn’t deterred me from using them, but I only buy things marked very good or like new
I love it!
love it! I’ve bought several books and they’ve never come damaged.
Lol
@Angela lol
Love it

Wouldn’t it be easier to buy used books from your library or second hand store that way you could see them and make sure they are in decent shape
Easier than just having it at the touch of your fingers? Personally, that wouldn’t be easier lol
The local library here has a very small selection…. the used book store is only $1-$2 less than new books because they have to pay their bills lol
I love used books!
I LOVE Thriftbooks and if you have an issue with a book they will replace it at no charge and they dont ask you to send the old one back.
Amazing. Love thrm
I ordered from Thriftbooks three times and received all packages in a timely manner. Even the books that were in acceptable condition looked good. I was very satisfied and will order from them again.
I’ve had only positive experiences with them. I’ve made several orders over the last couple years and never had any issues whatsoever.
LOVE thrift books. I have never had a bad experience with them. Free shipping over $10 and you get rewards like free books.
Absolutely love it. I use it all the time.
I keep getting ARCs ???
I’ve tried to use it a few times, but they never have the books I’m looking for. It looks like a really good site though. I still have questions about the s & h tho.

@Jeff. Most can be removed by using a little heat, from a hair dryer for example. It softens the adhesive so the stickers can peel off easier.
i have a method (scotty peeler and goo gone) but stickers of the more papery covers really cause issues when they use strong glue. heat maybe helps some but it seems the longer the sticker is on the book the harder it is to remove.

I have used them for a few years now and have hardly had issues but when i have they have taken care of it with no problems.
Though an order just came in actually and there were 2 ARCs??? Im not sure how or why or if i am excited or upset about it. ?
I use them all the time and have never had any problems with them. I think you get what you pay for. They have different levels of used you can purchase. I would say if you want a book in excellent condition you should buy it new.
