Children of the night by Dan Simmons. I have not read it but I read why he wrote it. Real children in Prague orphanages were given daily shots of blood etc with same needles giving all Aides. Dan was seeing this with his own eyes

Author Jonathan Maberry, his books are thrillers, horror and plain fun. Check out his website for the different series. Joe Ledger and The Pine Deep Trilogy are my favorites. Although I have read his Young Adult as well.
