As already mentioned above, an old classic: โThe Virginian is a 1902 novel set in the Wild West by the American author Owen Wister, (1860-1938). It describes the life of a cowboy on a cattle ranch in Wyoming and was the first true fictional western ever written, aside from short stories and pulp dime novels. The Virginian paved the way for many more westerns by such authors as Zane Grey, Louis L’Amour, and several others.โ

Anything by Lamour,Louis
News of the World by Paulette Jiles
The Removes by Tatjana Soli
Louis Lamour! He was the Stephen King of the western writers pumping out book after book, but all with a well written style (not like pulp fiction).
I haven’t read it yet, but it’s on my list to be read.
It has to do with the Donner Party.
Want to read one that will strip your gears? Get Robert Coover’s Ghost Town. Guaranteed to mess you up! ๐ฎ
