I am 63 and I like authors Lee Smith, Joan Medlicott, Elizabeth Berg, Anita Shreve, Sandra Dallas, Mave Binchy, Ann Rivers Siddon, Patrick Taylor just to name a few.
I don’t care for romance or westerns, but other than those, my taste is varied. I’ve been a serious literary fiction reader for most of my reading life, but I like genre books as well, especially horror, scifi and (very) dark fantasy. Four books I’ve loved recently: Sing, Unburied, Sing, The Passage trilogy, The Sparrow and The Windup Girl. I’m just a couple of years past 65, and I know many women of my age who are still interested in expanding their/our reading horizons.
I just turned 66 last week. Favorites recently were The Nightengale, A Gentleman in Moscow, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Britt Marie, Educated, Winter Garden…t
@Lynda I’ve just finished reading The Sapphire Widow ? plus also read the Tea Planters Wife & would agree they are great books (for any age really- I’m in my 40s) ?
The one author that seems to pop up frequently is Kristen Hannah My cousin has read a couple of her books and likes them. I have not ordered any yet from the library
Judi Purvis Yes I’ve definitely read some of hers…. can’t remember which ones though as it was ages ago….. (I’m keeping a list of books I’ve read now ?)
I picked up a secondhand copy on eBay for around £2.50. It’s a quick read but incredibly useful for us ladies just slightly past the ‘spring chicken’ phase.
There you go. Absolutely anything. I read Harry Potter when I was in my 70’s. Apart from all the latest recommendations I pop in classics like Black Beauty or a Wilkie Collins. The Colour Purple by Alice Walker or To Kill a Mockingbird. So many great reads.
I’m 66 and read anything and everything .. any type of genre .. I don’t think age has got anything to do with what you read .. my granddaughter recommended me to read The Hunger Games.. I really enjoyed them
Not sure what age would have to do with a good read. I’m 65 and read everything that looks like it would be good. That includes Young Adult books. I loved The House of Night series so much after reading the first one that I bought them all.
What kind of books do you like – fiction, historical, romance, autobiographical? Give us an idea so we can better suggest a book.
I agree age doesn’t matter with reading preference. I do have to say that my taste has dramitcally changed as I have aged. I read books now that I would have never read in my thirties and books I read in my thirties don’t interest me now. I find I relate to certain books/stories differently with my age.
I’m 69 and like a good thriller where the author had done serious research on his topic AND shares it with them reader (fact vs fiction). Think James Rollins or Steve Berry.
I’m 67. I read all genres. Age really isn’t relevant to reading unless it’s a children’s book or one aimed specifically at young adults (even then I loved the Mockingjay series). Haven’t tried Harry Potter though.
I’m 75 and I like to read non fiction, historical fiction, crime and the odd romance. I also like books about the Australian outback ( non fiction mainly). particularly outback stations. old stock routes. pioneer farmers. I really don’t think age has much to do with it. You might like Kate Furnivall’s books. I am on my third and am hooked on her writing.
I shall be 65 next week and I’ll read anything except horror. I’ve always read randomly and widely and I’ve no plans to change that. I’ve just finished a sexy Regency romance and starting a memoir about a woman who escaped Afghanistan after Russia invaded.
My mom who’s 93, shares books with my sister who’s 68 and myself .. I’m 55 . We like several different genres, just good writing! Just out of curiosity… is there a reason you put a specific age on your tweet?
