I loved it but I am a fan of FLW 🙂 I have visited both Taliesins and a bunch of his other houses and buildings. FLW determined most of the route during my 3 year road trip, if you’d like to see the pics I took, this is my travel blog: https://lifeat55mph.blogspot.com/
And a jerk to those who worked for him, often not paying them for long periods of time. He was a design genius, but thought he was better than everyone else.
Keep at it, the plot twist hit me like a ton of bricks. I agree, the first 2/3 of the book were quite slow/dry, but I liked the writing. When I despise a character, I know the author has done their job, lol.
I didn’t know what a jerk he was either, but still glad I read it. Then I read “Aviator’s Wife” by Melanie Benjamin, which I liked but Lindbergh was also a jerk! But still glad I read that also!!

I enjoyed it a lot. Anxious to go see Taliesin in Spring Green, WI.
I read it and felt the same way, mostly because FLW was such a jerk!
He was a jerk toward women, unfaithful and uncaring.

Maybe this is not the time for this novel for you. I really enjoyed this book because of what I learned about FLW. It may be different for you.
I also loved it. But also a big fan of Frank Lloyd.
I loved the book.
Worth finishing for the FLW history but I didn’t love it.
Parts were very slow, but overall I enjoyed it. And not having known what happened late in his life, the book was certainly eye-opening!
I absolutely loved the stories. After finishing the the book I moved on to The Women by T.C. Boyle to learn more about them.
I enjoyed it, keep going!
One of my all time favorite books. FLW was a genius and a philanderer and a jerk, but the story is so compelling.
Gave it up at about that point
I couldn’t read it after his mistress (can’t remember her name) left her children for him.
The end blew me away.
Read that. Yes was disappointed with the woman. But an amazing man nonetheless.
Just started this for our September book club. Enjoying it so far.
Don’t give up. If I thought you should, I’d say so!
It’s on my list. Gonna give it a try.
I really liked it, but I had no idea he was such a jerk.
I agree
I didn’t know what a jerk he was either, but still glad I read it. Then I read “Aviator’s Wife” by Melanie Benjamin, which I liked but Lindbergh was also a jerk! But still glad I read that also!!
Oh, and also read “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain and Hemingway was equally a jerk!! I still learned a lot!
Lindberg was not a nice guy but I enoyed the book.
@Karen, Agreed!
it was fine but not great. People in my book group refused to read it because he was such a person. LOL
I also enjoyed reading it. Scandalous!
wasn’t my favorite…..
I wasn’t crazy about it, but I thought it was interesting and I learned a lot.
I loved it. After that went to see Falling Waters and Kentuck Knob.
Me too. I’d like to visit them all. Saw the house in Scottsdale too
I liked it too. Keep going…..
It’s reallllllygood
Veryyyyyy elucidating. I viewed FLW in a different way after this book
Worth reading so I would say stick with it. The man was a genius but clearly he had mental issues.
I recommended it to two book clubs & they really loved it. Great discussion. Everyone goggling facts …no one knew the story
Too many other books out there to waste time on one you aren’t enjoying.
Tough read in many ways but still felt it was worthwhile.
I agree. If you aren’t into it, don’t read it. Of course I should also admit that I really didn’t like that book!!
I love Frank Lloyd Wright, and enjoyed the novel Loving Frank very much!!
It wasn’t a novel, though. All those awful things really happened.
I loved it!
I wasn’t crazy about it to begin with, but ended up liking it. A lot.
I loved it… better than her next novel. But I’m from Chicago, and grew up around Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture, so…
I liked it as a view into FLW’s life, but I think he is rather despicable.
he wasn’t a nice man, but i love his houses. read bio 20 years ago
My book club read it and all liked it. My husband even read and liked it
It’s a must read to the end to get the full drama. It’s one I’ll never forget.
i read it. it was fine. i did not love it by any stretch though most of my book club did love it.
I loved it. Not only that but I loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to a friend who— etc. It made the rounds in my small town.
After I read that, I was so interested that I read Death at a Prairie House. I was fascinated.
Me too
Hard to read.
I did not know how the story ended historically, so it was shocking and gripping. Perhaps if you already know the facts it’s not as powerful.
Agree. I was stunned!
I knew nothing of the real story, so was amazed and grateful to have read it.
