@Chante WWI: All Quiet on the Western Front and A Farewell to Arms. WWII: A Bridge too Far and The Dirty Dozen. Napoleonic Era: War and Peace and Master and Commander.
Ride the Wind is one of my favorites and is based on the life of Cynthia Ann Parker, kidnapped by Comanches and raised as one of their own. Her son Quanah was the last free Comanche war chief
The Outlaw by Warren Kiefer is my all time favorite. It’s kind of a western that takes you through all kinds of history. Also check out the Plantagenet series by Sharon Kay Penman. That’s the history of the kings of England, king Henry Ii, his sons, Elenor of Aquitaine. I’m reading Here Be Dragons right now, which is historical fiction about the end of the welsh princes.
What era?
No specific era really. Maybe something set during World War I or II.

Just about everything by James Michener is historical fiction. They can be heavy and long but worth the read.
