Clan of the Cave Bear came out when I was in high school and I read it then and was absolutely enthralled and loved every second of it. I also loved the second one and then thought the third one was terrible and wasn’t crazy about the fourth one and then kind of gave up. This past year I reread Clan of the Cave Bear and honestly it did not stand the test of time for me I thought it was boring and a tedious read
They did give me an idea what I wanted to do after the apocalypse.
I love the idea of traveling, a la Ayla and Jondalar, from village to village, spreading knowledge and culture. They did it in the prehistory. I want to do it in the post-history.
I loved them but I agree with most everyone, the last book wasn’t as good as the others. I do think the last book describes how culture may have developed from a hunter/gatherer Goddess worship society to a patriarchal, city/commerce based community.
I’ve read her books. My mom met her once (At a week-long camping event where she was doing research. Her RV was parked next to my parents) I liked most of her books. I’m not a huge fan of her last one. It felt too forced.
I never read her. Clan of the Cave Bear?
Brilliant series. You HAVE to read it.
@Rika I have enjoyed it.it can be a tedious read for some
Yes the series.Its set in the caveman days

They can be slow.ive really hoped there would be another in the series to get ayla back to her son.but I definitely understand your feeling
Lot of tedious detail for sure.i guess the love of the character gets me thru them
@Robin, same!
I have read them all, though I thought they went seriously down hill after the second book. Too much soap opera and not enough story.
@Dan agreed.The first 2 were the best
Yes, sort of. Loved the Clan of the Cave Bear but the series diminished in quality as it continued

I liked the first three. After that, the quality suffered and I didn’t like them.I could barely finish the last one.
Yes yes yes… wonderful series.
The first 3 are my favorite, the last one is OK but it doesn’t seem to have the same flow as her others imo.
Meeeeeee!!!!
YES!!!!!
I want to name my baby Ayla. Ha.
I have seen the name several times on here and figured it came from the book lol it’s pretty

I didn’t care much for the last book either but I loved all the others.
