I agree with Dympna’s suggestions. I love both the film and the book of “How Green Was My Valley “ and, although I haven’t read him for years, A,J.Cronin has moved me deeply. Pearl Buck’s The Good Earth is also a delight.

as far as i am concerned its a classic also loved pearl Buck. Had to reread and it seemed like a different story each time but not exactly prowoman
