I so enjoyed shopping for christmas, thinking about how happy everyone would be when they opened them. I had that warm feeling in my heart thinking back about their smiles and laughter until………the bills came.

By the time their adult children had finally found the Christmas decorations in the farthest reaches of the attic, all the gifts had already been opened and their children were getting ready to load all of the grandkids into their cars and head back to their homes. “I think we need to switch all those boxes around better for next year–that was to close for comfort,” Grandma whispered to Grandpa as everyone drove away.

I was sitting on my couch happily texting Christmas messages to my friends before church on Christmas Eve as it was too late to prepare and send Christmas cards (which unfortunately has become an annual tradition).
Hearing an unusual noise, I looked up to watch the beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the corner slowly and majestically lean over until it resided horizontally on the living room floor.
