i’m not good at picking up languages. i took french in school and my dad was teaching me german, couldn’t master it. best i can do is count to ten, only problem is i start off in french and ends in german
I can read a bit in other languages, French, German and Spanish, although I would need a dictionary handy, and I wouldn’t be as fast as I am when reading in English.
My first language is German but I haven’t read a book in German in years. I prefer to read books in English and if I could I’d love to read some in French, too.
DANTE!!! My GOD I’m struggling with the translated version… I think if I read ancient Italian or whatever the original language is, I’d have a MUCH easier time with the meter and flow. I’m not likely to learn it… But maybe some day….
I want to learn French to read The Phantom of the Opera and I want to learn Spanish to read Don Quixote! Apparently, J.R. Oppenheimer learned Sanscrit to read his favorite books!
ok, I saw your name, and that couldn’t be more Dutch if you wanted too. I still have Family and friends in Belgium, so if I really wanted Dutch books, I would ask them 🙂
Yes. Would love to. A book loses so much in translation no matter how good the translation is. I read In English and Hungarian. Have studied German and Spanish, and am currently trying to learn Japanese. I can read … books for babies. The older you get the harder it is.
i tried reading one in ikea once, looked like a good read
Ikea?
yeah, don’t know if it’s the same in other ikeas but the one i go to displays swedish books on the furniture around the store
i stood at a bookcase for thirty minutes once trying to read one of the books
Yes, they are Swedish company and have Swedish books.
I would totally love learning a new language… Maybe French or Spanish…

English is my third language and I can’t even enjoy reading in my own language anymore…
yep haven’t read anything in my native tongue for years, I migrated to Australia so only English books available.

No. Only just found time to read in my own language. No sarcasm meant just retired
No, am far too lazy!
Yes! If only my brain worked better than it does… (Russian! FRENCH! Hindi! Japanese! German! Spanish! So many…)
Not a chance
I actually learned French to better read old British classics. ?
lol i learned english so i could read my faves when they’re released and not a year later when they’re published in my first language so yes…?
DANTE!!! My GOD I’m struggling with the translated version… I think if I read ancient Italian or whatever the original language is, I’d have a MUCH easier time with the meter and flow. I’m not likely to learn it… But maybe some day….
Yep
Heck yeah, I would
The way some ding-dongs think, if you read OUT LOUD & real s-l-o-w, you may be able to understand a foreign language.
Use same technique for speaking.
(I had to use a Latin dictionary to fully enjoy ‘The Name of the Rose”, by Umberto Eco.)
I want to learn French to read The Phantom of the Opera and I want to learn Spanish to read Don Quixote!

Yes
I would love to learn portugese because I could read The Alchemist in it’s original language. ?
Yup. Done that.
are you having the same problem as I have? Migrating to an English speaking country and not having access to Dutch books anymore 🙂
@Walter I am American born looking for books in dutch. Recently started learning how to speak it and thought reading a dutch books would help.
@Walter I was able to get one from Amazon.nl.

@Walter my parents are from Holland. I have a cousin that brings me a book each year from holland
Nope I can read 4 languages already, if there are not enough books in those, I’ll find another hobby like coffee bean grinding or something. 😀

I improved my English by reading books in that language, my native language is spanish
Yes I’m already trying to learn japanese! (Not having much luck, hard to learn on my own, don’t have a teacher)
