@Stephanie I think because the other two were so different from the first. I felt the first was more sterile somehow and the other two more organic. Did that make sense?
The Giver has been my favourite book since I was 11. This year I discovered the rest of the series (I’m 27) it was incredible. The first is still my favourite, my original copy is falling apart from reading it so many times. ?
When i was younger gathering blue was my favourite I really empathized with kira. But when I got older and had kids Claires story really stood out to me
Omgeeee I feel like not a lot of people have read all four, or they haven’t heard there were four books. Makes me happy there’s a discussion about it ?
I love the series a lot. It mixes sci-fi and fantasy in a cool dystopic mess, and it’s a book for younglings that is not afraid of death and it’s permanence.
I agree, the first book was by far my favorite
Agreed. The first is the best
I enjoyed them
My 14yo wants them for christmas. She got them from school
I liked it
The first book is my least favorite but they’re all good.
@Jenny why do you like it least

Guess i never looked at it that way. The second seems a bit more realistic in ways
My 12 year old loved the first one. He just did a book report on it for ELA.
I fucking love this series. I read it over a few years, and the last book ‘son’ right after I had my daughter… It brought literal tears to my eyes ?
Read the first book and really enjoyed it..
Liked all the books.
Love the whole series! I gave them to my bookaholic nephew (12) and he devoured them also!
Absolutely the most unique series ever! The way Lois Lowry connected the characters in each book … amazing!
It’s a series?
@Andrea yes! The stories all seem like completely different stories and the last book brings them all together. It’s awesome!
@Andrea yes more companin novels
Wow! How did I miss this?!
@Andrea the giver. Gathering blue. Messenger. Son
@Andrea HIGHLY recommend
The Giver remains my favourite

Wait what? I was only aware of one book
@Thomas the giver. Gathering blue. Messenger. Son
@Stephanie my library only ever had the first one
Great series

I like gathering blue
I read the first two, i remember almost nothing from them
I love the series. Each book is unique and the characters are the same but different, if that makes sense. Messenger was one of my favorites.
First one on my tbr shelf
I’ve read the first one, didn’t know it was a series until I was in my 20s. I have the full series note but haven’t read them.
