I think I read slow. Or is it that I don’t have as much time to read as I’d like?

1
Reply

I think I am, some people think I’m not. A 400 page book depending on my interest level can take between 2-5 days.

I’m not a slow reader but I don’t get to read as often as I would like maybe 40min a day so it takes me time to get through books xxx

Before I started medication for my mental illnesses, I could easily read 1-2 books a day, even large ones without trying. Made college easy lol. Now? Pfffft. Slowed my brain down and makes it harder to comprehend and retain. But it’s okay. I get to live in the worlds longer now.

I read at my own pace and I don’t rush through. I usually try to read for about two hours a day. But if I don’t know the meaning of a word I use a dictionary app and look it up. Sometimes that sets me back a little

1

Tricia

I’m not sure if I’m a slow or fast reader to be honest, but I only really get to read when I go to bed so books can take a couple of weeks to finish sometimes, all depends how often I fall asleep in them!! I have two teenagers one 6 year old and two dogs alongside a full time job so I don’t get to read as often as I like unfortunately

Me, I have a slight reading disorder. If I’m reading a novel, it goes quicker because I’m not trying to learn anything. It’s just reading for pleasure.

1

Course you are ☺ but you cant read 24 7 need other hobbies to ☺

1
Tricia

So true @Hayley its not how much your read its that you read ?

2
Caterina

I do have other hobbies like drawing, crocheting, knitting, and I do go out and do things. Reading is something else I enjoy doing. I appreciate what you said. 🙂 I really needed that @Tricia and @Hayley.

Takes me usually 2 weeks to finish 1 book depending on how long it is

2
Reply
Magda

It varies wildly, depending on the book, and my free, focused time. These days it usually averages to a book a week, but some books take months, because I’m just not in the right mood for the writing or genre, sometimes because I want to savor it, but usually I have no control over the reeeally good ones, and they zip by quickly.

Depends on the book… One I’m currently reading is at a rate of about 20 words per day… It’s got a strange rhythm that keeps yanking me back out of the story every other sentence. Should go faster once I adapt to the style…

I used to be a very slow reader cuz I like savoring every book. Then my TBR went out of control and I had to read a bit faster than my usual pace because there’s just too many great books I want to devour. I’m not a speed reader though. I don’t like skipping details.

1

I’m still a wee bit slow. BUT the more I’ve read the quicker my pace is and if I’m REALLY in to it, I’m even faster.
Also, my oldest (when she was in 1st or 2nd grade) came to me upset that everyone in her class read faster then her. I asked her”When you read do you understand what your reading? And answer you’re teacher’s questions correctly?” She said yes. Then I told her the kids who read faster don’t. So not to worry yhe speed will come the more you read. ?

1

Well…that not bad. I guess its natural more or less…but also depends how much time you get to read.

So long books are you talking about, 300+ pages or more than that?

1
BelénQuestion author

Usually it’s any length of book. I’m also terrible at finishing books and series too because I get so distracted by other books haha

I’m not very fast, I don’t care, because I just read books that makes me happy, but most of the time it depends on the book, some I read a little faster than others.

1
Reply
Robin

Depending on the book, how many times I have read it and how much it captures me, I will read at different speeds. But I never read fast. I like to savor a book.

Everyone is different. I tend to be a fast reader – for paperbacks, my rule of thumb is 1 page per minute – 300 pages = 5 hours. For me, it is not about speed, but enjoyment – I read because I enjoy it. If you are a *slow* reader, but enjoy what you read, the good for you!
