Honestly went kicking and screaming into the kindle experience, dragging my feet and declaring loudly to anyone who would listen, “It’s not REAL reading!” Now, two upgrades later, I love it… I’ve gotten so spoiled by the one touch definition feature.

Lurve my kindle! It’s a simplistic and clinical way of reading so many books.. and after witnessing some paper mites amongst the pages in the past, no thanks, I’m no longer icked out

I have a love hate relationship with my kindle . I love the convenience and being able to download a book whenever I like and reading where ever. But I prefer a real book I do tend to lose my way with a kindle book and forget the plot more. I don’t find it as easy to flick back to reread bits and as much as I love the paperwhite for reading in the dark I hate that the covers aren’t in colour. That all said my arthritic hands find it difficult to hold a real book. Overall the kindle is better for me x

I don’t mind the kindle for (what would have been..) paperback novels but I love a nice coffee table book, reference book or an atlas!

Mike

I’ve gotten to the point where, if I have a choice, I really only prefer physical copies if it’s by a favorite author or part of a series I collect. Then it becomes sort of a special treat.

I can’t hold books any more. They get thicker and heavier all the time and I can’t carry the weight anymore so a kindle is ideal for me.

I prefer kindle now as easier to manage my books and takes up a lot less space.

I understand the feel of a real book what I dislike is paper cuts so kindle doesn’t give you those. Also lighter to a point as well

I would take a book any day over the kindle as I still like to hold and feel a book but alas kindle is ideal for quantity and lack of space in my house lol

Love a real paperback but have read all those I bought back at the end of July so back to kindle again. I have 250 unread back in UK but sadly can only carry back about 25 each time I come. Owing to us having no internet for 17 days I have got through everything I bought back at the end of July.

I don’t hate my Kindle, iPad, iPhone or PC. They are just convenient, and I use them at will. They are not books, though -and I love books.

I love my kindle. I must be honest and say I do not miss books at all. It has opened my eyes to authors, that I would never have come across either in a library or book shop. Still enjoy the wonder of book shops for all my grandchildren.

Here we go again. Have to bash on the e-reader instead of just freaking celebrate THAT PEOPLE ARE READING. If going to pick on something, pick the real rip-off people use to inflate their reading egos: audiobooks.

I travel a lot. Kindle is the only way, but there’s nothing like the feel of a book. Unless it’s something like the Luminaries, and then I get RSI just holding the thing.

Its got to be a proper book! I’m also a writer and I write everything by hand before I type it up. But I’m old fashioned. ?

I don’t hate the Kindle but would prefer DTB. You mentioned ‘needs’ and ‘practicality’…. Yup, that is the reason I use one: dodgy hands and dodgy eyes. GREAT, BIG, FAT books weigh the same on a Kindle….. and I can choose the size of the FONT to match the mood of my eyes.

Elizabeth

Yeah, I wrote a blog post (no self promo, don’t worry, haha) about that sort of thing as many people don’t realise just how much more accessible Kindles can make reading and all the features they have. Many people don’t even think about its bonuses aside from the size and being able to take tonnes of books anywhere. There’s lots of features. Even a font to help dyslexic people and ANY book can be a large print book with a kindle and the weight of a book is problematic for some less able people too so there’s that factor as well as the ability to turn pages by tapping rather than physically turning them which is also a bonus for many. As much as I love a paperback, I much rather read a book on my kindle than not read at all! ?

2
Mary

@Elizabeth you summed it up perfectly! My first Kindle was a gift from my son at a time when my dodgy hands and eyes were leading me to think my reading days might be numbered. I now believe I will read until the lid goes on! All the extra weight for holiday gear I’ve gained is a big bonus too!

Books only fall to the floor when you fall asleep. Kindles break when they fall to the floor and you step in it. Books remain okay?

0

Don

Here’s a thought: don’t fall asleep before putting the book/Kindle down. Though with a Kindle you could read in bed with someone asleep right next to you and never bother them – then just close the cover when you are ready to sleep.

I just adore my kindle. My eyes are deteriorating so with the back light and larger font its great and light.I am lost without it.I now have the kindle app on my android.
