Little House On the Prairie. My best friend lived on a farm. Her dad taught me to ride a horse. I was expected to pitch in when I slept over on weekends and before the sun came up, we were hauling wood, fixing fencing, picking gourds . . . Her mom made homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast. My friend was given a cow for Christmas in junior high and I was so envious. . . Her biggest fear on prom night was that the turkeys would be up on the porch when her date came to pick her up. She had 7 brothers and sisters. Religious family that knelt and said the rosary every evening after dinner. I had so many memorable times there.
Anne of Green Gables, Bunnicula, Vampire Diaries, Christopher Pike books, Silverstein poetry collections like A Light in the Attic and Where the Sidewalk Ends, Roald Dahl.
The Swallows and Amazons series- My BFF and I were both obsessed and spent many hours writing secret codes and letters back and forth. Oh! And Harriet the Spy!
I’m neither red-head or tended to get in trouble, but we devoured all the Astrid Lindgren books: Pippi, Emil and Kalle Blomqvist (not sure of the spellings, as we read them translated into Afrikaans!)
The Help…I grew up in the south during that time…so much was sadly familiar. I cried A LOT through the reading of that book.
The Glass Castle lol
@Betty, me, too! My sister and I read it at the same time, and agreed that was our life!
