Try a shelter for abused women, or a homeless shelter.

Prisons, library book stores, many nonprofit agencies have drop-in centers that can use them (my wife works in mental health and has set up libraries at two of her agencies with donated books).

Please ask the library if they will accept the donations before you assume they will take them. Libraries usually look for materials that are current (example: some books listed Pluto as a planet and it’s no longer classified as one), in good condition (we’ve received some with spider webs and roach poop before), and that they don’t already have. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve had to try to figure out what to do with donations we couldn’t use.

The college library has a take one/leave one rack there at the top of the stairs. I’ve loaded tons of books into that. I know Goodwill & the Salvation Army takes them, I’ve gotten a TON from there.

I don’t know where you are from, but in our town we have a literacy guild that operates a book store where you can donate books for resale. Then they take the money for the books and help adults learn to read. That’s who I donate my books to.

Prisons are in need of books. They are some of the last to get any.

High schools and elementary schools always take in any books that are being donated. Sadly, so many schools are unable to build up their literary sections because they don’t have enough funding. I donate most of my books to local high schools that are in dire need of books.
