When I was 17 I was working in a hotel and and the day the new Harry potter book came out (I had it pre ordered but haddent picked it up yet) Well I walk in a room and there is a copy on the bedside table… I couldn’t help sneak a peek and flicked to the last page to read the last chapter… it made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever and I have never skipped any part of a book since ??♀️
Only when I am reading a crime book and they suddenly throw in some explicit sex which is not relevant to the crime. I don’t mind the detectives or whatever going to bed together I just don’ t want to know what they do when they get there.
@Michael I rarely skip pages, but have been guilty of doing so when reading the Lincoln Rhyme stories by Jeffery Deaver. In the books, Rhyme continually updates his boards with new information, and repeats the complete list every single time. Good for word count but unnecessary. Dean Koontz is another author who always practises overkill with fine detail. Just my take on it 🙂
No because if the author is that boring I give it up and don’t read their books again! And yes @Mike I have given up on JD too, last two books I bought are no-where as good as first ones.
Agree with some others. If I am going to do that, I don’t like it enough to even bother finishing it. I would never skip pages in a book by an author whose work I enjoy
Am currently reading LJ Ross book 6. When reading the previous book, I was tempted to sneak a peak at this one just to see if a certain character survived or not! But I refrained from the temptation, and just read it bloody quickly!!
I’d never considered reading the ending first, the enjoyment for me is losing myself into the story and the build up to the outcome at the end, surely this is what the author wants to do for his/ her audience?
I certainly skim, rather than skip whole pages, usually at the beginning of a book if it isn’t grabbing me or later if certain passages seem to be slowing the narrative pace.
Depends on the book. If it gets really exciting, I read faster and faster. If it’s a review book I’m not enjoying much, I skip all the extraneous descriptions of people’s designer clothes (brand names mean nothing to me) and the music they listen to (ditto, when will new writers understand that just naming the track does nothing for people who don’t know it?).
Yep! And I read the last page hahaha x
50 shades of grey oh yeah
All of it !!
Oh no!

lol
Yes
I could never skip a page
Yes
Shocking!
Nope x
Yes I have. I have also on many occasion had to cover the text so that my eyes don’t stray to the next chapters
I cover the text working up to something like a verdict in a trial!
@Kath that pounding feeling and you can’t read fast enough but and are so tempted to just look!
That’s the one!

Agree.
No never
Not usually .But when reading Chris Carter I Am Death had to look at back as was getting anxious (I know !) ?
Couple of times I’ve skipped a couple hundred pages and binned book
When they discuss sports that have nothing to do with the plot or characters.
i dont skip..i just read at a glance if its a bit boring x

No, but I have read the last few pages to see if I thought I wanted to carry on.
I never skip pages but I occasionally skim through some
Yes if a book isn’t holding my attention!,
Sorry Denise Mina but started Exile it didnt grab me read the start read the end but still didn’t want the middle now i wonder about her other books
Never
If it gets to that point, I’ll give up and pick up a new book. Life’s too short to settle for ‘Meh’ ☺️
No!
I skim when there is way too much superfluous description. And some sex. I just need to know they did it, I don’t care how!
I am guilty sometimes in skipping a chapter, it tends to keep me reading a book that I have struggled with.
Oh yes.?
No because if the author is that boring I give it up and don’t read their books again! And yes @Mike I have given up on JD too, last two books I bought are no-where as good as first ones.
Rarely .. I’m generally hooked x?
Yes frequently that’s the time I give up on a book as well , life’s to short .
Sometimes but I have never done it
Yes to finish it when I hate it and it’s monotonous xxx
Have you done this often.
@Jason nope
Agree with some others. If I am going to do that, I don’t like it enough to even bother finishing it. I would never skip pages in a book by an author whose work I enjoy
To my shame I do skim through if it’s gone a bit rambling…too much description that’s not really relevant. !!!
No. Either read the book properly or don’t. In fact I’m more the sort that goes back and re-reads a section!!
Am currently reading LJ Ross book 6. When reading the previous book, I was tempted to sneak a peak at this one just to see if a certain character survived or not! But I refrained from the temptation, and just read it bloody quickly!!
Yes I don’t need sex scenes in my murder books lol
is the Pope a Catholic?
Mmmm so many books say he isn’t
I dont skip pages but i do skim read ?
Is that the same as speed reading
Only if I’ve lost interest in the book I’m reading
Never … I’m too nosey ?
Nope but I do sometimes read the end first
Why?
Me too @Caroline. I flip to the back to find out how the story ends, then I start at the beginning to read how the book gets to that ending! ?
@Amanda glad it’s not just me
@Jason sometimes I’m curious about what happens and impatient so I skip ahead a bit ?
No because you missed the vital line!!
Often, but then you have to go back because you’ve missed something crucial!
Then you have to find the pages that you’ve missed out 😉
I’d never considered reading the ending first, the enjoyment for me is losing myself into the story and the build up to the outcome at the end, surely this is what the author wants to do for his/ her audience?
Dust by Patricia Cornwell. I skipped the rest of the whole darn thing.
That book was awful. Not been keen on her recent books
No never. I see it as cheating. If I ever thought I’d skip pages in a book then I’d give up reading
No !!!!!
I sometimes read past very descriptive parts of a book if I am not in the mood for it. I would never skip parts or read the ending though.
I’m a fast reader, but i would never consider skipping pages
I sometimes skip long descriptive passages that slow up the action.
Yes ?
Yes definitely
Yes sometimes mostly when author waffling about character getting up showering dressing … clothes … breakfast I don’t need to know this thank you ?
I certainly skim, rather than skip whole pages, usually at the beginning of a book if it isn’t grabbing me or later if certain passages seem to be slowing the narrative pace.
No.
I have. I usually put that book down and read something else.
Tut tut
Only when I’m bored witht the book, want to give up but also want to know what happens at the end. Thankfully, it doesn’t often happen.
Read them and Tut
Tut
I’m shocked!
Never never
No.am afraid to miss any minor details.
Oh, I can’t do that. Who knows what I might miss
Common sense does prevail after all
I sometimes skip sentences to find out something but go back and read what I skipped
Depends on the book. If it gets really exciting, I read faster and faster. I read all the book no matter what just in case something important is revealed at an unexpected time.
Here we have another person that talks sense
I skip read the end of novel I read recently. It wasn’t well written and I had had enough of it.
What’s worse is when the author is writing the book and decides to skip a page or two!
