I bought second hand and when they arrived there was a price inside which was obviously from a charity shop and I ended up paying more for the book then what they did and they were not in very good condition so would not buy them again off them. At least if I go charity shop I can see the condition. Xx
If I’m wanting to go to a bookstore, I always go to Half Price Books. If I order online, I’ll buy a kindle book depending if I have other books by that author, like a series. If it’s a book and author I’m not sure about, I’ll see if the library has it first. If not, I’ll buy it used from a seller on Amazon and if I don’t like it, I’ll sell it to my local bookstore.
I quite often buy used books from Amazon. I’ve never ended up with a book in bad condition, they are usually as advertised. However, because I live in Ireland I find myself buying more books from The Book Depository recently as it’s free postage & a new book. I do wait until the price comes down though.
As a retired librarian I was spoilt and always had access to the new books first, so I have turned into a book snob cannot read a dirty book, so have to wait for special offers or presses, I know it’s a horrible thing to admit to.
Depends on how my bank balance is !!! If I am a little low on funds I go for second hand and then if I feel flush I buy brand new. I also buy the deals on Kindle too.
Both. It depends on what I’m buying. If the book is potentially one that I will want to add to my library, I buy new and sometimes buy hardback. If the book is something like a crime novel that I’m likely to pass on to a friend, on the book’s inevitable path to a charity shop, then I’ll happily go for used books. I’ll also buy used if the title in question is out-of-print.
as long as used one is in good condition then I don’t mind x
I usually go for second hand, get more books for your money
