Getting interrupted or having to get up to do something especially during a good part. Also if a book gets too confusing or I can guess what happens in the end
When I find an error. I was reading one last night where the main character had been thinking about how she had to get to biology class… but then pages later in the narrative, she went to her chemistry class. (Or was it vice versa? Urgh! Started the sequel and still thinking about that error.)
And! When title pages to chapters have long quotes or song lyrics— S King does it all the time. I then wonder how it relates to what I’m reading. Then I remembered he may have been drinking or on drugs while writing… ?
Some books introduce to many characters at the beginning and it becomes difficult to remember who’s who when they have conversations with no mention on who’s talking.
Repetitive sentences, like, they remembered her eyes. They remembered her voice. They remembered her laugh. They remembered her tears. They remembered her stories. They remembered her songs. They remembered her leaving. And so on… Like good lord just use commas
Yes! Or a long drawn out introduction at the beginning of every book. I get it-not everyone is going to read the previous books but atleast give those of us who do and have a page number we can skip to
Needless details in a short, fast paced book(looking at you, James Patterson). I don’t need to know what book Alex Cross is reading or that he’s going to send the author a letter. YOUR CHAPTERS ARE TWO PAGES, MAN! STICK TO THE STORY.
Grammatical and spelling errors. Also things that don’t jive with earlier parts of the story. The book I am reading now had a character sipping coffee then a few paragraphs later said she took another sip of water.
Ahhh but there are so many haha. If there’s absolutely no character development whatsoever. You could have the most amazing setting and plot arc but if the characters have no depth or personality – forget it.
When I have figured out what is going to happen in the end and there is still 200pages left. Eg: Tower Of Dawn. I am like just get to the end already. When people interrupt me and tell me I read to much.
When people talk to me or when I’m at a really intense part and my husband needs me to help him with something, or my son needs me to go with him to go potty ?
I read mostly in the bus, while travelling to and from work or wherever I’m going. So, its annoying when I reach the most interesting part of a chapter at the same time as I reach my destination :/
Someone trying to talk to me. ??
Constantly hearing mom mom mom when he should be sleeping haha
Interruptions
Noise, I have to sit in complete silence. I usually just go in my office to read.
Falling asleep ?
Distractions! Also, getting sleepy too soon!
When my mind wanders and i loose track or where i was on the page
When my cat decides she wants attention right then and there when she usually just wants to be left alone lmao
People talking to me like I am doing nothing.
When I get the distinct impression the writer has actually forgotten details in a book they wrote.
I keep getting interupted
When the author focuses too much on a secondary character and it is hard to keep the story straight.
People trying to start conversations with me because they think I’m not busy
@Vanessa yes!
Agreed.
When everyone is on their phones so I open my book then someone accuses me of being anti social.
Falling asleep. I can’t read like I used too and always feel so darn tired.
Small print.
Ragged paragraph edges

Unpronounceable names.

@Allen I just say it the way I want ?
Having someone talk to me
Working! ?
Getting interrupted or having to get up to do something especially during a good part. Also if a book gets too confusing or I can guess what happens in the end
@Jane I hate washing clothes while I read because I have to stop to put them in the dryer and then fold them.
Unpronounceable names and imaginary objects and creatures that are indecipherable.
getting interrupted.
Getting interrupted. “Do you see me reading?!”
Having to stop to go to work.
My husband decides he wants to talk when I pick up my book!!?
Cigarette smells in a book.?
Thankfully I’ve never had that!
People talking on the phone nearby & noise in general.
@Robert agreed!
When a big plot reveal hinges on some minuscule detail alluded to in an early book in a series (one you barely remember?)…
When they kill off the main character … I think I put all this effort into reading a story where the character failed. I feel my time was wasted.
When I find an error. I was reading one last night where the main character had been thinking about how she had to get to biology class… but then pages later in the narrative, she went to her chemistry class. (Or was it vice versa? Urgh! Started the sequel and still thinking about that error.)
Noise
Someone always talking or trying to ask me a question…
Someone who has read it giving me SPOILERS! Hate it so much.
And! When title pages to chapters have long quotes or song lyrics— S King does it all the time. I then wonder how it relates to what I’m reading. Then I remembered he may have been drinking or on drugs while writing… ?
Getting interrupted
People attempting to start conversations with me…
My husband is lucky I don’t paper cut his ass when he talks to me when I’m reading.. ?
Not being left alone
Finding errors. The c word is an automatic DNF for me. Story not flowing like it should be.
Having a migraine so I can’t read.
Books that go back n forth in time.
Ugh yes!!!
Saying the same thought in different parts of the book.
Interruptions
I can only read on my phone and it’s almost dead
Some books introduce to many characters at the beginning and it becomes difficult to remember who’s who when they have conversations with no mention on who’s talking.
Using snout instead of muzzle when speaking of dogs
@Mary lmao what a strangely specific biggest pet peeve

No harm no foul??????☺️?
When I

@Michael Teasing your a great joy and commentor thanks???☺️?
@Mhyles ???
I hate long chapters!
I love short chapters, so I can close a book when a chapter ends and NOT feel guilty.
When someone tries to start a conversation with me.
Someone talking….
Repetitive sentences, like, they remembered her eyes. They remembered her voice. They remembered her laugh. They remembered her tears. They remembered her stories. They remembered her songs. They remembered her leaving. And so on… Like good lord just use commas
Words not spelled, or used correctly. Tons of errors. NO punctuation.
If it is a series and it repeats the same introduction of the characters in every book. For example, Jane Evanovich
Yes! Or a long drawn out introduction at the beginning of every book. I get it-not everyone is going to read the previous books but atleast give those of us who do and have a page number we can skip to

Sorry, it really annoys me.
Oh I got one missing or pieces of pages tore out for book marks????
Being interrupted when reading….. 🙂
Grammatical and spelling errors. Also things that don’t jive with earlier parts of the story. The book I am reading now had a character sipping coffee then a few paragraphs later said she took another sip of water.
When a author misuses a true fact. It throws me off the story.
Spelling or grammar errors
I feel the same. OMG it really spoils the book in some way.
Ahhh but there are so many haha. If there’s absolutely no character development whatsoever. You could have the most amazing setting and plot arc but if the characters have no depth or personality – forget it.
Also, an entire book of cliche or stereotype characters will make me put it down quicker than I picked it up.
Uninvited ‘over-the-shoulder’ guest readers.
I soooooooooooooo agree!!
Being interrupted when I’m really into the book and on a reading roll.
Me to @Philip!!!
When I have figured out what is going to happen in the end and there is still 200pages left. Eg: Tower Of Dawn. I am like just get to the end already. When people interrupt me and tell me I read to much.
When my attention span has gone to shit and I can’t focus.
when the prose is flat
Having to stop and do actual work. ?
@Sabrina ?
When people talk to me or when I’m at a really intense part and my husband needs me to help him with something, or my son needs me to go with him to go potty ?
