My Aunt and I enjoy the same books and when she is finished reading hers, she gives them to me. This is a gift in itself but the real gift is how she tags them with post it notes telling me which one to read first and love reading her excitement in her notes.

I would love to receive a book holder, like The Book Seat that can also be used as a pillow! A gift certificate is a good idea too.

I once bought a set of earrings from hot topic, and one of the earring sets was a tiny stack Of books. I also recently order a Hermione Granger bookmark from Etsy. One of my favorite books is Jane Eyre, so I ordered a shirt from Etsy that had the quote “I am no bird, and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will.” If you know they like a particular book, they have tons of related stuff on Etsy, and it’s all handmade but super affordable.

For one of my birthdays, my husband took me to upstate NY for the weekend, and found me a huge used bookstore to get lost in for a few hours. It was the best birthday ever <3

I live in upstate NY! Where upstate is it? I’d love to visit!

1
Natalie

We stayed in Lake George, but the store was in Saratoga Springs. Lyrical Ballad, I believe it was called.

1
Jeanette

Pardon me while I put in a note: Northshire Bookstore is in Saratoga Springs now, too. Great independent bookstore (though I’m biased I work in the “mother store” 🙂 )

2
Natalie

Awesome! Next time I go I can hit both!

1
Casey

I’m from upstate NY, near Saratoga Springs, and was just there for a visit and visited Northshire whole I was there which will always be 1 of my favorite book stores.

1
Stephanie

There’s also a book warehouse in Saratoga as well, and while I think it could use us little ocd in the organization department, it is definitely a get lost for a little bit type place. And the used bookstore next to Magic Moon in Saratoga !!!! To die for !!!!!

Gift cards are the obvious answer, but you could do bookmarks because the average user will use whatever slip of paper is nearby, which makes a bookmark a thoughtful gift. My husband has bought me framed prints of quotes from books I love, coffee mugs, jewelry with book themes, I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, so I get tons of HP merch for every occasion.

I have a bookmark that was given to me as a child. It’s still one of my favorite gifts and has stayed remarkably pristine because it’s usually tucked in flat between the pages.
